On May 14, 2019, an experimental apiary was inaugurated on the Bellaterra Campus (Vallès Occidental, Barcelona) of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). The apiary, called UABee, was created at the initiative of an interdisciplinary group of professors and students from the UAB, and its objective is to promote knowledge about bees (Apis mellifera L.) and the study of beekeeping and its products in the university community, both for teaching and research purposes.
UABee collaborates with beekeepers and companies in the sector, and carries out research, training and extension activities. The UABee experimental apiary is open to demonstration visits, citizen science projects, as well as to support hobbyists and all those people and institutions interested in the extraordinary life, functions and products of bees.
