The Irish and English reliationship has been a frought one for most of history. This decade was no different as it brought to surface many of the tensions that would later go on to be what is referred to as The Troubles where some in northern Ireland wanted to seperate from the UK and other's did not. This is a pretty massive simplification of a complicated history but if you want to learn more about the troubles you can watch this video. The 1960s also was shortly after there was a big move for many people to leave Ireland following the economic slump caused by the end of WWII. This was also a time of great cultural exchange as many Irish artists such as Samuel Beckett and Seamus Haney gained recognition in Ireland and Popular bands in the UK became popular in Ireland.
