Gospel has been around for thousands of years with millions of people being involved in the community having a large sum of belief in Christianity.

According to school.eb.com/levels/high/article/gospel-music/37471 gospel goes all the way be to the 19th and 20th century with Sunday school at a church. It got quite popular in the 20th century with more people wanting to get involved in Christianity and praise.
