Would Recommend?: Yes, but only if you have been enveloped in the Amazon ecosystem.
I have been an Amazon customer since I was young, back when their main export was books. Recently, I was looking for an alternative for my Amazon Echo Dot - 2nd Generation. I grabbed the Echo Dot - 3rd Generation during a Black Friday deal for around $29, and although this is not really EDC, I really wanted to mention it because it has been a great alternative to the Google and Apple ecosystem. I currently own many Amazon tablets, Echo Dots, and even an Amazon Fire TV Stick, so upgrading really seemed like it would have benefited me.
Overall, it has been a great improvement over the 2nd generation echo dot. The look and feel is a huge improvement, it feels sturdy and it looks amazing. It definitely is a bit bigger then the older gen but for good reason. Sound quality is amazing and so much louder. I had my 2nd gen connected to a small external speaker via the AUX port because you could barely hear it. This version is loud and sounds so good that the speaker is not needed. Response is just as fast as the previous generation when using the wake word. I did notice that the light has a slight delay compared to the 2nd gen when using the wake word but the light has no effect on Alexa actually hearing you. Still responds and hears what you say with zero issues. This version is definitely a good buy and I'm very impressed with it.
