To add onto what the homepage says, I have been in education for 7 years and have spent all but two teaching 8th grade U.S. History, which is fitting because it was my 8th grade history class that inspired me into wanting to do this for a living. To further that point, I teach in the school district that I attended and am two classrooms over from the class that drove me into this... even the textbooks are still the same.
I come from a small town near Michigan's Thumb. The city has a great history as a lumber boom town, but is currently pretty unremarkable (our most famous ex-resident Madonna even called it smelly). But, I like it here and while it is a small place, I like to think that it's easier to make a bigger impact on whatever it is people decide to do. After finishing up my undergraduate degree at Michigan State in 2017, I knew I wanted to return home eventually but my desire was to go elsewhere for a few years and then come back, but life has a funny way of working itself out.
Between teaching and coaching, what little spare time I do have is taken by my two dogs and the hobbies I have. I am a history nut and love to play trivia. I enjoy cooking and try most recipes I mindlessly scroll by on Instagram. I am an avid golfer and spend my summers traveling (and golfing) with my fiance.
When I was preparing to go back to Michigan State to finish my master's degree I knew that administration was probably in the cards, but I was unsure of what role I would want to take. Being a principal sounded interesting but was, honestly, too academic. Part of me always wanted to become an athletic director at the high school level to help try to grow an athletic program as a whole and see each individual sport succeed, so when it came to selecting focuses for the Master of Arts in Education program, selecting Sport Coaching and Leadership was an easy choice. I will graduate with that and a certificate in Athletic Administration in April 2024 and see what job opportunities come up after. I look forward to continuing my work in the classroom (and on the field... and on the court... and across the country...) in the meantime.
