My name is Tyler Trost I am of the Class of 2028 at Leonardtown Highschool in Leonardtown Maryland. My main career goals are to find a job that I don’t hate which shouldn’t be too hard because I enjoy a wide variety of things mostly relating to sports, computers and planes. My current plan is to go to college for at this moment aerospace engineering and play lacrosse. I was introduced to aerospace engineering by my adult managers at the Pax River Naval Air Museum where I work teaching people how to use the refurbished F-14 cockpit flight simulators. I work there because I love planes and engineering so aerospace just makes sense for me to pursue.
Due to my goal to become an aerospace engineer, I have decided to do the engineering program at my county’s career and technology center through my high school. I have also taken pre-calculus my junior year and I don’t yet know what math I will take in senior year but I plan to take one that will put me on a good path to succeed in college and the workforce. I have experience with common car maintenance, soldering, computers(primarily hardware but also some software), and welding.
Since my summer of 7th grade I have played and loved lacrosse. It has given me a reason to try harder and also has molded me to be better at school, decision making, leadership, coordination, and teamwork. I have recognized that I can work better, harder, and more ability to set goals that I will work towards after starting lacrosse. I also volunteer at the Pax River Naval Air Museum teaching people young and old how to fly a military grade flight sim. Working here has taught me leadership of my co-volunteers who try to show up and goof off even when we have customers. I have also found that I enjoy teaching especially when the learner is 1 on 1 or a small group. Because I enjoy teaching and lacrosse, I also train a new player looking to get into the sport. I believe all of these skills will help me in the future whether that is working in or managing a group of engineers looking to solve the world's problems.
After I graduate, my plan is to go to school for a bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering and play lacrosse as I work towards my degree. I want to attend a college or university mostly because I want to make more money later in life, play lacrosse, and have the college experience. Before I really discovered engineering I wanted to be a police officer. Based on how many times I have changed my plan for life, my plans will likely change but each day it is looking more like I will stick to my current life plan.
Things I want to do in life:
Live a happy, stable life
Work a job I enjoy and that makes good money
Work myself to the freedoms I want such as playing lacrosse in free time and not worry about money
Do something (good) that I can be remembered for
Experience:
Years of computer building and some software experience both windows and some Linux
Soldering
MIG welding
Things I’m Bad at:
Writing extensively, I do much better when I am asked direct questions as opposed to making the questions and answering them myself. I explain much better to a person than paper or a computer
I get distracted very easily if what I am trying to do isn’t super interesting to me
