I am a passionate homeschooled student of game programming from an small town in Australia with a drive to learn and make games. I started my journey making games in Scratch before getting a few certificates from the Academy of Interactive Entertainment and I am looking to take my knowledge to the next level.
This 3D zoo tycoon-inspired project started life as the entry in the Let's Go To The Zoo Game Jam, which is a month long game jam.
As for coding, I handcoded most of the game except for the meat of the saving system as it is too complicated for me to make in the short timeframe.
Here is part of my code for the grid-based system of the game and it checks the player's mouse position and moves the ghost object to that position so that when the player places an object, it spawns at that position.
After the game jam, I decided to start the process of turning this game into a commercial product on Steam. So I constructed a Game Design Document for the game.
Here is part of my GDD that shows how much each item costs to buy.
I also came up with a unique mechanic for the new release of the game. It allows you to create new animals by combining the top and bottom halves of various animals.
