This document has some media and film related progression pathways i looked at to see what the next step after college would be. We had to look at 3 university options, 3 apprenticeships and 3 work placements. While we were meant to try to find one apprenticeship and work placement within Cornwall, i struggled to find any in the south-west.
For my work experience i chose to do it at the Mount Kelly prep school, as i wanted to gain more insight into the workings and teaching aspects of a school environment.
This is the document in which i evaluate the entirety of the first year on the media course i am on, this includes things like improvements to make going forward, projects i enjoyed, and a general reflection on the first year.
This is the five year plan which also acts as a follow up to the first year evaluation.
This is my cv
I attended an open day at the Manchester Metropolitan university to look at their film course and what they offer. And was incredibly impressed with what was offered.
I attended a workshop at Falmouth University which showed us how to use better equipment than we currently have available at this level, this included cameras and a foley setup.
I attended Callywith College for my post secondary education. Here i built up a portfolio and skill set.
In 2023 i attended Mount Kelly prep for work experience, whilst i was there i helped the art department organised their supplies and got to sit in on the process of education through the context of being a teacher and not a student.
In 2022 i went to London to do a week of work experience at the British Forces Broadcasting Service. The duties i had there included helping around the offices and filming a short promotional video for each of the two office locations i visited. Unfortunately these videos are internal only meaning i cannot show them on my portfolio.
A talk i attended from a professional editor in the industry where he gave advice about the industry and how to work in it.
Outside of college i make short films and videos which i post to my YouTube channel.
I attended a talk where a professional multi media artist spoke about her creative process and the works that she had created. She provided insight into the industry and how she works in it.
I frequently upload to my Business Instagram relating to the projects i am working on at the time.
This is the short film i produced for the additional a level i took alongside the diploma course. The film received a b grade, and i scored an overall b grade on the course as well. While the film had a few different edits of it the one below is the one that i submitted to be marked by the examiner. The other cuts can be found on my YouTube (linked above).
Unfortunately the footage i recorded for this session was on an sd card that was lost during an unrelated shoot. So there are a few weeks where footage i recorded was lost.
Session one: Slider workshop
In this workshop we learned how to set up and operate a slider. This was relatively easy then we were able to experiment with different shot types we were able to achieve through the use of the slider. We did tracking and panning, a low pull, gib shots, and the jaws shot. It was a very informative session and i now posses the knowledge about sliders meaning i can use them in my own films and projects
The footage from this week was also on the lost sd card so i do not have it. However the gimbal practice went well and it was useful to have a refresher on how to set one up and use it in motion. While the footage from this week was lost Harry was nice enough to give me a copy of his footage to put on my site as it features me using a gimbal.
This week went well and i got a useful refresher on how to use a slider, and got to use it in a different way from the ways i have used it before. In which we used the slider at a vertical angle to get a sweeping track up and down. I also used this footage for a test shoot for the title sequence project.
This week went great, we got to practice all the previous weeks equipment which makes up for the lost footage from prior weeks, and we also got to practice using the jib. I hadn't used this piece of equipment before but i caught onto it pretty quick and it was smooth sailing from there
This week was very successful and we practiced our interview techniques, something i had already had recent practice with having done work for the bts team on unit 10. So this was a nice refresher before the documentary project.
This week we practiced a three point lighting tequnique wich was relivitvely easy to set up and do with no issues whatsover, but its always good to have the practice.
This week we did a four camera interview set up as an entire class. I was assigned the camera that was on Alfie but also ended up doing most of the lights as those weren't being set up by those with that respective job role. The shooting went smoothly, and while it wasn't particularly difficult it was good to get in the practice
