We are Zahra and Paul, lifelong travellers who have been exploring the world for more than 20+ years, predominantly via vehicle-based travel or backpacking. Our travels are simply planned, mostly multi-country, unassisted, cost-effective, and sustainable with minimal equipment. Now, in our 50s, we have independently backpacked around the world 3 times & driven overland by 4x4 on 4 continents. Travel for us is about the qualitative journey in life, & not the quantitative counting of experiences. Indeed, many of our journeys were made pre-digital. Therefore, our channel is now a memory box aid to experience.
Zahra is a Scientist, Florist, and Entrepreneur from London, & Paul is an Anthropologist from Lancashire England. We are dual Australian citizens permanently based in Sydney Australia.
We hope you can follow along on the journey beyond the familiar, and the stereotyped expectation
Questions We Are Asked
Why Two Head North?
Well Living In Sydney Australia, nearly everywhere is North for Us
Why are we travelling Overland in a used old lexus SUV from Iceland to Australia?
Well, we have travelled for 20+ Years from backpacking, to driving fords, nissans, toyotas, VW's, landrovers motorbikes, hiking, boats, ships & lots and lots of 4-wheel drives. In the end the journey and being there is more important than the car. The car to us is just a tool and we are not 'fanboys' of a brand. We have our opinions of 'what's best' if you see us and ask us, but we find for us it's the journey, not the car.
Indeed we have talked of this trip before overlanding was a word but life, and trips elsewhere got in the way and this is the culmination of a 20-year-old idea that if all goes to plan should take us a year to complete.
How are we funded?
We are self-funded & independent. We work save & always travel to a budget for food, accommodation & transport avoiding tourism and expense where and we can
Are we married, & what do we do?
Yes, Zahra and Paul have been married for 26 years (Oct 2023) Zahra is a Scientist, Florist, and Entrepreneur from London, & Paul is an Anthropologist.
The Question we are asked the most - How many countries?
We are travellers who value the experience of the journey, more than how many you can count indeed we prefer, and our advocates for slow travel over counting the number of countries. While we don't focus on counting countries, we can say that we have independently backpacked around the world, mostly using ground transportation, three times. We have also lived, worked, hiked, camped, and travelled overland on five continents.
