Twister Kicks Line Dance

What this is

• Advanced: Lessons won't be lightning fast, but you should be able to pick up choreography fairly easily and be comfortable challenging yourself.

• Technical: I'm going to teach you Catalan-specific line dance steps, like twister kicks and jumping rock steps, in the context of different dances so you can get familiar with them and learn to recognize them when they're not called out by name.

• Niche: I won't be teaching flashy, dancehall-trendy dances, but the techniques you learn here will make learning those dances easier.

• Contextualized: When relevant, I'll share information about the choreographer, the context in which a dance was created, and what makes it interesting.

What this is not

• A linear curriculum: The more you learn, the easier it becomes, but dances won't build upon previous lessons directly.

House rules

1. Video is discouraged: This is a space to learn, not capture content. Feel the dances in your body before playing to the camera. If you really want video (it's okay! I get it!), wait until after the first full-speed rep. I promise you can find full-length, high-quality demos of everything we do on YouTube.

2. Practice spatial awareness: Some of these dances will take up space! Be mindful of how they (and you) travel and aim to keep a ~2-foot buffer around you at all times.

3. Listen to your body: If a dance doesn't agree with your body, don't force it. It's okay to modify steps and/or sit something out entirely. These dances can be tricky and you may struggle to pick them up. Learning how to learn and noticing yourself getting more comfy with new choreo as time goes on is part of the journey. Tune into that!
