PROPER MAINTENANCE & CARE FOR OUR UNIFORMS
SUITING UP:
All students are to carry their uniforms to reporting location zipped up in their garment bags. Students will get dressed there upon arrival. If they need help with the uniform parts, their section leader or a band uniform parent can assist. They are to notify a band uniform parent if something goes wrong with their uniform so we can properly assess the uniform to prevent further damage.
Upon return from their performance, students change out of the uniform and return it to their garment bag on hangers. These all look the same and therefore they should make sure they have their own uniform parts before packing up. If there is a question on a part being theirs, the Uniform Team has these all assigned by the numbers and they can ask the volunteer for help in this situation. At no time should any student wear any part of their marching uniform home. It should always be transported in the garment bag.
When they get home, regardless of weather (but especially so on really hot/sweaty or rainy/damp performance days), the uniform needs to be removed from the garment bag immediately. Hang the jacket, pants, storm coat, and garment bag separately. We cannot stress this enough. Hanging the parts immediately and separately prevents mold from setting into the material and growing. Once a uniform gets moldy, it is unsafe to wear, and we can no longer store it anywhere near other uniform parts as it will spread. These situations can be quite costly! Mold spots can appear within hours which is why we emphasize HANG THE UNIFORM IMMEDIATELY!
DRY CLEANING:
We also have students get their uniforms dry cleaned 1-2 times per season depending on the weather. You can use the dry cleaner of your choice. Please do not give the dry cleaners the hanger because they will not return them. The specialized hangers are purchased by the TBB so that they can all fit in our storage closet correctly. You are responsible for the return of this hanger when you turn in the uniform at the end of the season. Armadillo Cleaners in Twinsburg does a great job for stains, but they do take longer to get back, 4-5 days. D.O. Sommers is usually 1-2 days. Keep your next performance in mind when dropping off to the cleaners. Also, make sure to save the receipts, the directors often ask they get turned in as part of their participation grade.
GLOVES:
White gloves can be washed with your whites and bleached or basin/sink washed with Woolite. Dry flat on a towel.
Black percussion gloves do bleed especially when the hands sweat or it rains. We suggest to sink or basin soak the percussion gloves when you receive them in water or soapy water with a mild detergent. Rinse them until the water runs clear. Hang to dry with an old towel underneath in case they drip.
