The 20 Story
Adoption & His Name
Adoption & His Name
One day, there was a little girl who wanted a dog. She wanted a dog so bad that she was willing to cry and beg for it. Then finally the day came for her to get a dog. This dog wasn't her first choice, but once she knew it, he was the one. On that day, there was a sale for chihuahuas and pit bulls. She woke up and told her parents she wanted a dog and they decided to go look at a shelter in the pound. They went to the pound and asked her what type of dog she wanted. They meant a boy or a girl, but she meant what type of dog like the breed. She wanted a dog who was adventurous. They were looking through the dogs and they saw this little baby pit bull, but these other people took the dog. She actually wanted that dog, but if she did get that dog she wouldn't have had Twenty. They were looking a these shelters and she saw these cute little tiny dogs and her Mom didn't want to get them because they had a gate that didn't have anything to block the dog to get out. The tiny dogs would fit through the gate, so they had to get a dog that was a little bigger. They ended up getting a mix chihuahua and she saw this beautiful light caramel brown with blue eyes dog. She wanted that dog, but it wasn't a chihuahua and she wasn't allowed to get it because it wouldn't be as cheap. She looked some more and she saw this cage of chihuahuas and there was a little puppy that kept moving side to side. She kept looking at it, but she knew she couldn't get it because it was too small. Then she looked at some bigger dogs and she looked for the right size that would be for her. She saw her soon to be dog. She looked at him and thought to herself, "You're kinda cute, I kinda like you," although she didn't know he shed at the time. She told her mother that she found her dog. They let her have him on a leash to this cage where they can play with the dog. The first thing that they did was stand in the corner with the dog and said hello to the dog. Before she knew it, the dog peed on her leg. The worst thing was that she was wearing sandals. After that she knew they were going to be great friends because when dogs pee on something that means it marks its territory, so she thought it meant to adopt him and saying that he will always love her no matter what. She respected that, and said, "you're coming with me, pal." Then they said that they needed to sign some papers and pay for the dog. She was so excited to finally get a dog. They walked out and she sat in a chair in a waiting room. As they were waiting, they were discussing what to call the dog because the shelter didn't have a name for him already. She was glad that they were able to name him. She suggested "Penny" because of the dog's color of copper brown fur and her Dad was trying to be funny by suggesting the name "Twenty" because he cost $20. She couldn't think of nothing else, so they decided to go with Twenty! When they finally left, Twenty was so happy to be on a leash to walk around. They gave them some dog food to start off with and a leash that wasn't very good because she had to tie it to keep it around his neck. It was basically just a rope. They gave him some treats and made sure he went to the bathroom before they left in the car and they let him stick his head out the window just a little bit. When they went home, Twenty kept looking and smelling around he house. She was so happy. It was the best thing in her life. Twenty, the bets thing. Twenty was scared because it was new people, he didn't know them yet. He has to get to know them. They took him out in the backyard and saw that they didn't have anything for him to sleep in because they decided to get a dog that day. They got a car mat and they had that for his bed along with some blankets to sleep with and they found some bowls. It was the best thing to have a new dog because she missed one. He wouldn't bark at people because he was trained not to bark at them. He knows how to protect and he started learning how to bark to protect the house. On the first night, he would always scratch the door and cry, so she went outside to sleep with him and once he fell asleep she gently went away, but he woke up again, so she had to back over there. By the third time, he was finally able to go to sleep. Eventually, he learned how to be on his own. She would always feed him in the morning, because she wanted to take good care of him.
