About me

Originally from South Africa, I have lived in Kent for 30 years - the last 8 in Southborough - with my wife and two children. My wife is a Headteacher in Tunbridge Wells and our children both attended secondary school in Tunbridge Wells.

After retiring as Head of Lambeth Music Service I'm now teaching Science at Knole Academy. I've been has been a member of the Liberal Democrats for a decade and decided to stand for election because by working with Trevor Poile we can give help the Borough a vibrant, convenient and attractive place to live, work and enjoy.

After a few years of shouting from the side-lines at poor decisions from local and national government, I decided to get involved and stand for election.

I am looking forward to representing the residents of Southborough North, whether on local or Borough-wide issues. My vision for the Borough is for it to be a vibrant, convenient and attractive place to live, work and enjoy.

Current Tunbridge Wells Council Balance of Power

Lib Dems have 12 councillors so, together with other non-Conservative parties, for the first time in a generation we have the opportunity to change the leadership of the council - replacing the tired Tories with fresh faces with new ideas and energy.

We will work together with all parties to achieve the best outcomes for residents across Tunbridge Wells.

Tunbridge Wells Lib Dem Key Objectives

As a party with the very real potential to lead a coalition Borough Council, we are focused on six key objectives:

  1. Safer streets (Click these headings to bring you to the detailed plans)
Tunbridge Wells will have safer, more attractive streets where people can choose to walk or cycle, and vulnerable road users are protected

  2. Vibrant town centres and protecting the council’s finances
Create vibrant, attractive and well planned towns and villages while balancing the books

  3. Sustainability and the environment
Reduce the Council's carbon footprint and support residents in reducing their own carbon impact

  4. Become an open and transparent council that truly listens
Ensure our consultation processes are constructive and allow for meaningful input from residents

  5. Provide genuinely affordable housing
Work with partners to create a portfolio of sustainable, affordable housing for social rent

  6. Enhance local democracy
Devolve more powers to the borough’s parish councils, where they are wanted and when legally possible

My focus for Southborough North

  • Using public money wisely and efficiently

  • Listening to the residents needs to make sure we provide what we need most

  • Ensuring the safety of pedestrians and cyclists especially children walking to school

  • Delivering core services such as recycling efficiently and at reduced cost

  • Improving our streetscape and access to high street shops

  • Supporting public events and activities for the residents of Southborough

  • Being available to listen to residents individual concerns

I hope you will vote for me on the 5th May.
