Speech and Debate is an extracurricular activity that encourages students to explore and develop ideas, research, and critical thinking. The nature of our competitive events and competitions means that competitors/students may be exposed to controversial social and political topics. By participating in Speech and Debate, students may be exposed to content that discusses ideas related to politics, gender/sexual identity, religion, and other controversial material. A wording committee from the National Speech and Debate Association establishes the debate resolutions for competition; each school has purview over the content of their students’ presentations and topics; thus, we cannot be responsible for what students may encounter during a round of competition.
