Jolt Remote ("the app") is a smart TV remote control app for Android, published by Fastabs Technology ("we", "us"). This policy explains what information the app handles, where it goes and the choices you have. It applies only to the app. It does not cover your TV, your streaming services, IPTV providers or other third-party products, which have their own privacy policies.
Jolt Remote is an independent app. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by any TV manufacturer or streaming service. Brand names are used only to describe compatibility.
We do not collect personal information. The app has no user accounts, no advertising, no in-app purchases, and no analytics, crash-reporting or tracking SDKs of our own. Nothing you do in the app is sent to us. We do not use the Android advertising ID, and the app does not request access to your location, contacts, camera, microphone, call logs, SMS or files.
If you choose to email us for support, we receive your email address and whatever you write. We use it only to answer you, and we delete support emails when they are no longer needed (normally within 12 months).
To work, the app saves the following only in its private storage on your phone. It is never uploaded to us:
Your TVs and devices: name, model, platform, local IP address, MAC address (used for Wi-Fi "turn on"), the nickname and room you give them, and connection preferences.
Pairing keys and tokens that your TV issues when you approve the connection on the TV screen. These let the app reconnect without asking again.
Your settings: language, theme, remote layout, haptics and similar preferences.
Things you create: scenes, schedules, sleep and kids timers, family screen-time rules and PIN, favorite apps and shortcuts.
IPTV player data (only if you use it): the playlist links, Xtream Codes server, username and password, or files you add, plus favorites and recently watched channels.
Usage counters such as the number of app sessions and successful commands. These stay on the phone and are used only to decide when to show the Google Play rating prompt.
The app finds and controls TVs, streaming devices, projectors and receivers on your local network (the same Wi-Fi or hotspot). To do this it uses standard local discovery protocols (SSDP/UPnP, mDNS/DNS-SD) and each device's own control protocol. Button presses, keyboard text, voice-search text, app-launch requests and media you choose to cast are sent directly from your phone to your device. They do not pass through our servers.
Your TV and its manufacturer handle that information under their own privacy policies. For example, your TV may record which apps you open. Some TVs use unencrypted connections on the local network. That is a property of the TV's protocol, and it is one reason the app works only on networks you trust.
Infrared (IR) control, on phones that have an IR blaster, sends signals only from your phone's IR emitter to the TV. No network is used.
When you tap the microphone, the app opens Android's standard speech-recognition screen, which is provided by Google (or your phone's speech service). That service processes your voice under its own privacy policy. The app never accesses the microphone or your audio. It receives only the recognized text and sends it to your TV.
QR scanning uses the Google code scanner from Google Play services. The camera image is processed on your device by Google Play services, and the app never gets camera access. The app receives only the scanned text, which is a TV connection code generated by Jolt Remote.
You pick files with Android's system photo picker. The app can read only the items you select. Those items are streamed from your phone to your TV over your local network and are never uploaded to us or any cloud service.
Mirroring starts only after you approve Android's screen-capture prompt, and a notification is shown while it runs. The captured screen is streamed only to the TV you choose on your local network. It is not recorded or sent anywhere else. You can stop it at any time from the app or the notification.
If you turn this on, the app pauses or mutes your TV during phone calls. It detects a call only from Android's audio mode (for example "in call"). It does not read phone numbers, contacts or call logs and does not need phone permissions.
The app is a player only and does not provide any channels or content. When you add a playlist or EPG link, the app connects directly to that address to download the list, the guide and the streams. That provider will see your IP address and the requests your device makes, under the provider's own policy.
The optional internet speed test downloads test data from Cloudflare's public speed-test service (speed.cloudflare.com) only when you start a test. Like any website, Cloudflare receives your IP address. The Wi-Fi checker and "Connection Doctor" run locally on your phone and network.
These show controls for your saved TV and send commands the same way as the main remote. Nothing leaves your local network.
The app uses a few Google components that are part of Google Play services. They may process limited technical data under Google's privacy policy:
Component
When it is used
What Google says it may collect
Google Cast SDK
Casting to Chromecast and Google TV devices
Anonymized Cast discovery and session events, device and app information, used to improve casting. It is not used to track individual users, it is encrypted in transit and it is not shared with third parties. Details
Google code scanner (ML Kit)
Scanning a QR code
Device and app information, performance metrics and error codes, used for diagnostics and usage analytics. It is encrypted in transit and not shared with third parties. Details
Google Play In-App Review
Occasionally asking you to rate the app
Handled entirely by Google Play. We never see your review identity.
Google Play services fonts
Downloading the app's typefaces
Font requests are served by Google Play services on your device.
Google's privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy. Some TVs also supply app icons or artwork from the manufacturer's own servers, which your phone may load when showing that TV's apps.
When you open a link, share the app or contact support, Android hands the action to the app you choose (browser, Play Store, email), and that app's privacy policy applies.
Permission
Why
Internet, network and Wi-Fi state, Wi-Fi multicast, local network access
To find and talk to TVs on your network, cast media and use the IPTV player and speed test.
Notifications
Optional: sleep-timer countdown, the notification and lock-screen remote, and mirroring status.
Foreground services (media projection, connected device, special use)
To keep screen mirroring, the notification remote, call-aware TV and a running sleep timer working while the app is in the background. Each runs only while you are using it.
Infrared transmitter
To control TVs with your phone's IR blaster, if your phone has one.
Run at startup, wake lock
To restore schedules and timers you created after the phone restarts, and to finish a timer on time.
Quick-settings tiles
To offer remote shortcuts in your quick-settings panel if you add them.
The app does not request location, contacts, camera, microphone, phone, SMS, calendar or storage permissions.
If Android backup is turned on, Android may include the app's settings (saved TVs, preferences, scenes) in your device backup in your own Google account, so they can be restored on a new phone. Google manages this backup for you. We cannot access it. Pairing keys are excluded from cloud backup, so a restored phone has to pair with the TV again. You can turn backup off in your phone's Settings.
All app data stays on your phone until you remove it. You can:
Remove a TV ("Forget"), delete playlists, scenes and schedules inside the app;
Clear everything in Android Settings → Apps → Jolt Remote → Storage → Clear storage; or
Uninstall the app, which deletes all of its data from your phone.
Because we do not hold your data on any server, there is nothing for us to delete on our side. If you emailed us, you can ask us to delete that correspondence.
App data is kept in Android's private, app-only storage. Pairing with each TV requires your approval on the TV, or a PIN shown on the TV. Data sent by the Google components above is encrypted in transit. Communication with TVs uses each TV's own protocol, which on some models is unencrypted on the local network. Use the app only on networks you trust and keep your Wi-Fi password private. No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure, but we design the app to keep your data on your own devices.
The app is a general-audience utility and is not directed to children under 13. The family screen-time tools are meant to be set up by parents. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information by email, contact us and we will delete it.
Depending on where you live, laws such as the GDPR (EU/UK), CCPA/CPRA (California), LGPD (Brazil) and others give you rights to access, correct, delete or object to the processing of your personal data. Since the app keeps your data only on your phone, you can exercise most of these rights yourself, as described in section 9. We do not sell or "share" personal data for targeted advertising as defined by the CCPA. For any request or question, contact us using the details below. You may also complain to your local data-protection authority.
If the app's data practices change (for example, if a future version adds a new feature that uses an online service), we will update this policy and the "Last updated" date above before the change takes effect. Where the law requires, we will also notify you in the app or through the Google Play listing.
