Many of us may have played music as a child- either in school band or private lessons, but then lost the motivation as we became adults and got busy with life. I didn’t get to play as a kid- but I always wanted to, so finding the bluegrass community was a dream-come-true for me. Bluegrass “Jams” are such unique events where it’s not unusual to find young musicians sitting next to retirees, both supporting and encouraging each other. The diversity and support that is associated with a music circle knows no boundaries of age, gender or social differences and that is wonderfully unifying. We love the fact that we can expose young people to fun opportunities to play music outside of school and/or private lessons in hopes that they will either start or continue to play throughout their lives. Many of our senior friends comment that they come to jams for social engagement, but the stimulus of playing keeps their minds sharp and their bodies active. There are undeniable science-backed connections to emotion, stress reversal, health and mental health benefits from playing music. Most importantly, it is just a fun way for ALL people to connect, make friends and share in a safe, judgment free environment. Beginners and newcomers are welcome to join right in, or lurk at the edge of the group until they feel comfortable enough to take a lead (or not!) Please drop us a line or come up and say hello at one of our events so that we can bring you into our circle!
