The vast majority of Undegraduate Workers who filled out the 2022 Anonymous Wage Survey were being paid below $15/h. Some workers are paid as low as $7.25/h, which is an absolute pittance. Other workers, like Residential Advisors, are paid in housing and Diamond Dollars. We aim to establish a campus-wide $15/h minimum wage for all Undergraduate Workers.
The results of the 2022 Anonymous Wage Survey confirmed our suspicions: there are clear indications of a gender pay gap at Temple University, despite the administration professing to stand for equality and non-discrimination. Women are clustered below the $13/h wage range and men, on the other hand, are disproportionately represented in the university's highest-paid Undergraduate Worker positions. We aim to counteract this trend by implementing radical transparency in the workplace, ensuring that workers have the necessary information to improve their workplace and working lives.
As many of us were already aware, certain Undergraduate Workers are currently working far beyond the twenty hour cap implemented by Temple University. More often than not, because of the artificial cap, workers are unable to report these extra hours and therefore are not paid for them. We are fighting for a 1.5x rate for overtime work so that Temple either respects its own cap on worker hours or, if workers must go above and beyond to accomplish their jobs, that the university compensates overtime work fairly.
