About Me: Hello, my name is Dawn. As a mom of 4 boys, I have had experience personally and professionally with the challenges and benefits of getting them through high school and college ready.
My oldest is a graduate of UNT and currently a teacher in Lewisville ISD teaching high school English. My second oldest finished at the Air Force Academy and is looking forward to pilot training. My third son wants to go to UT (like his mom), and my youngest wants to go to USAFA.
I am a parent of children with ADHD as well as dyslexia. I understand the special struggles associated with those (what we call in our home) opportunities to work through.
I have taught in public schools for a decade and have my Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction.
As a freshmen biology teacher for many years, I know the hardest year for students is 9th grade! Students struggle because of the transition, and they lack some skills necessary to be the most successful. Even students that had a straight "A" report card up through 8th grade struggle to pass especially the first six weeks. This is due to a lack of study skills and time management. With an increased demand physically with sports and extra-curricular activities as well as the mental demand of academics, students need to have the best foundation.
College Board states that study and time management skills are invaluable when taking classes that are mentally challenging as well as during your undergraduate work. Read more here about what College Board says about building college skills.
