Meet the Teacher

Mrs. Turpin

My name is Hilary Turpin, and I will be your child's third-grade teacher for the 2025-2026 school year! This will be my fifth year at Turtle Lake Elementary and my fourth year teaching third grade! I have previously taught first grade for two years; this will be my sixth year as a homeroom teacher. Before becoming a homeroom teacher, I worked in the district in student support positions at Sunnyside and Turtle Lake. I also spent time on the extension team, providing additional support in small groups for literacy and math. I loved teaching primary, but I'm excited to continue discovering the magic in third grade!

Education

I graduated from Bemidji State University in May 2019 with a degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Psychology. This past spring, I graduated with my Master's in Education. During my time at Hamline, I focused my courses on expanding my knowledge of neurodivergent learners, social-emotional learning, and equity in education. Upon completing my master's program, I intend to continue my education and obtain a Doctorate in Education. I am a forever learner, which I like to help foster in my students. This school year, I will be researching programs to continue that dream in the near future.

Family

I was born and raised in Minnesota. I have an older sister and a younger brother, making me the middle child - best part of the Oreo! I got married to my best friend in March of 2019. I currently live in Andover with my husband, Nicholas, and our four rescue Dachshunds (Ellie, Rey, Benjamin, & Loretta).

Hockey

My favorite team is the New York Rangers, but I will cheer for the home team! At a MN Wild game with my sister-in-law Lexi.

Broadway

I love to attend the theater; Broadway musicals are my favorite.

Travel

I like to travel all over the United States, but my favorite place is Disney!

Runner

Last summer, I completed a triathlon relay with Ms. Bietz and Mrs. Hagen! This fall, I will be training for my second marathon and coaching another season of Girls on the Run at Turtle Lake!

Dachshunds

I love all animals, but Dachshunds are my favorite. It is hard to get all four of them to sit still for a photo. Here are Benjamin and Rey, missing are Ellie and Loretta.

Space

In a galaxy far, far away . . . is where I would love to be! I have a passion for all things space (both fiction and not). I enjoy all things NASA and Star Wars.
