A swim-a-thon is a fundraiser in which participants commit to swimming laps and seek donations from friends and family based on their anticipated efforts. Some donors will contribute a flat donation amount (e.g. $50) in support of the participant's swim, while others may contribute an amount per lap that the swimmer completes during the event (e.g. $1 per lap).
Anyone who can swim is welcome to participate! Swimmers of all ages and abilities are encouraged to sign up.
Each participant will receive a link for a personalized donation page shortly after registering to swim in the event. This page will be pre-populated with a message for donors, a fundraising goal of $1000 and an estimated lap count of 20. All of the pre-populated information and goals can be personalized by the participant. You can share your unique link with potential donors, and they can submit their donations directly through the link.
All donations will be collected via an online fundraising platform called 99Pledges. 100% of funds raised (minus any associated credit card processing fees) will go directly to support Asphalt Green’s community water safety initiatives and ongoing skill development programs, both of which create pathways to swim instruction for children of families who otherwise would not be able to afford these opportunities. All donations are tax-deductible.
There is no set amount of time or distance that a participant must swim during the event. However, swimmers who have received per lap donation are encouraged to swim as many laps as possible to raise the most funds.
The number of laps completed will be tallied by the individual participant and are based on the honor system. If a participant would like, they are more than welcome to bring a friend or family member to count for them.
Swimmers may be assigned a particular start time and/or lanes based on a combination of number of laps they are planning to swim, 100 Free time (if provided), and age. Once we know the total number of swimmers participating in the event, we may assign swimmers a specific time within the event timeframe for their swim so that the lanes do not get overcrowded. Final details will be emailed to all participants in advance of the event. Please note that swimmers will be sharing a lane with other swimmers and we ask that all participants adhere to swim lap etiquette.
This event is not a swim meet so there will not be traditional heats of swimmers. Once we know the total number of swimmers in the event, we may assign swimmers a specific time within the event timeframe for their swim so that the lanes do not get overcrowded. Final details will be emailed to all participants in advance of the event.
Swimmers can get in/out start/stop as much as they would like. This is designed to be a fun event for a good cause!
