Leadership
As postdoctoral scholar and graduate student
I feel lucky and proud to perform as a leader and project manager at the University of Maryland and Northwestern University.
(At Northwestern University) I lead the computational side of a four-team collaborative project funded by NSF and guide junior graduate students. I communicate regularly with collaborators to determine our next steps, write grant reports for NSF, and prepare and submit manuscripts for publication. In addition to my work on the project, I also serve as the data manager for our research group of 21 individuals. As the data manager, I developed and implemented a computational allocation application for 14TBs, kept track of the simulation schedule for group members, and ensured that all data practices were up to par.
(At University of Maryland) Led the effort to start a new research field for the research group and successfully published 1st paper on using machine learning techniques on molecular simulation data. I am continuing to guide graduate students in advancing our research agenda. Additionally, I took on the responsibility of managing data unofficially and secured 3600KSUs to meet our computational requirements. My work also secured a multi-year grant from the Department of Energy, for which I contributed to the conceptualization, conducted preliminary simulations, and drafted the research proposal.
Founder and team leader of BUET Caravan
A group of 7 of us created an engineering team to design a fuel-efficient vehicle incorporating local materials. Our focus was on innovative design and engineering, guided by simulations, and we were passionate about educating others. After months of hard work and with support from our university's engineering shop and outside organizations, we were able to manufacture the vehicles. We collaborated with the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission to use Jute in the car body, which was made possible by their recently invented Jute composite. Despite little financial support from our university, we secured sponsorship and completed the manufacturing process on time. Our hard work paid off when we drove our vehicle in the Japan International Cooperation Agency's ECO-RUN. As the team leader, I am incredibly proud of our determination, engineering knowledge, and financial acumen. This project sets an example for engineering students in Bangladesh to aspire to great things, pursue rigorous engineering, and even participate in global competitions such as building Formula cars or Mars rover rockets.
Academic Coordinator at Bangladesh Mathematical Olympiad
Bangladesh Mathematical Olympiad is the biggest and most sought-after academic event for elementary to high-school students in Bangladesh. I was the academic coordinator for two years and led a team of 30+ academic volunteers. The academic team was responsible for preparing regional Olympiad questions and checking answers, preparing educational materials, organizing various math camps in different locations in Bangladesh, and helping train the Bangladesh team preparing for the International Mathematical Olympiad. In my tenure in 2017 and 2018, there were around 22000 and 25000 participators in 15 and 35 regional Olympiads, respectively. As a testament to the academic team's success in these two years, Bangladesh won its first-ever gold medal in the International Mathematical Olympiad in 2018, organized in Romania.
Vice-president at Multiscale Mechanical Model and Research Network (MMMRN)
MMMRN is a student-run research group in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology. This group has provided opportunities for collaboration among students, alumni, and department professors for the past decade. They have published exceptional computational research works, organized workshops and seminars, and even had some fun picnics. As a vice president of this group, I have taken on various responsibilities such as organizing workshops and training sessions, overseeing new member intakes, maintaining funds, guiding junior student researchers, and creating online content.
