Take this as a fictional story but it’s 真人真事*.
A secretary at the courts dreams of a beautiful woman thanking him for his help.
He is confused; every dream visitor he’s had was ugly, because they all died horribly by drowning or otherwise. Moreover, he’s never seen her in a case file.
He says, you got the wrong person, the person you want to thank is not me.
The next day, he goes to the courts and tells the judge about his dream.
The judge says, don't be so sure of yourself, there’s a new case on your table, go look at it.
He finds in it a picture of the woman who appeared in his dream.
The secretary often gets thanks in his dreams. His job gives him 功德 - merits and virtue.
Now his parents don't let him work at this job.
* Mandarin phrase emphasising the true nature of the account. It translates literally as “real person, real incident”.
