Tuniva
Last updated: 07 October 2026
This policy explains what information Tuniva accesses, stores, and shares. Tuniva is mainly a local music player, so the short version is: your library, playlists and listening habits stay on your device — because we don't operate a server that could receive them. The only things that leave your device are requests to the music catalogue and lyrics service you choose to use (Section 4) and ad requests (Section 5).

We'd rather start with what this policy isn't about, because it's most of it:
No account, sign-in, or email address is required to use Tuniva.
We do not operate a server that Tuniva sends your data to.
We never send your name, playlists, Favourites, or listening history to anyone as such. Two small exceptions, both explained in Section 4: a song's title, artist, album and length when you open its Lyrics tab, and the genre or artist behind the "for you" suggestions on Discover, which Tuniva asks Audius for by name.
We do not use any analytics or crash-reporting service of our own.
We do not access your contacts, camera, photos, messages, or location.
We do not sell your information, to anyone, for any reason.
The following is created and kept entirely in Tuniva's private storage on your device, using Android's standard app-storage protections. None of it is transmitted to us or to anyone else:
Your name — entered on first launch, shown on the welcome screen ("Welcome, [Name]").
Your library — title, artist, album, duration, and date-added metadata that Tuniva reads from the mp3 files already on your device, purely to display and sort your library. Tuniva never copies or transmits the audio files themselves anywhere.
Playlists, Favourites and Recently Played — the playlists you create and the songs in them, and a list of what you've played lately. If you favourite or play a streamed song, its title, artist, cover and web address are kept so it can be shown and played again.
Archived songs — which songs you've chosen to hide from your library (the files themselves are never touched or deleted).
Playback state — your last played song and position, so Tuniva can resume where you left off; your theme choice; and your resume-on-launch preference.
Downloaded songs — mp3 files you choose to download are saved in your device's Music folder (see Section 4).
Uninstalling Tuniva, or clearing its storage from your device's Settings, immediately and permanently deletes your name, playlists, Favourites, archive list and settings. We hold no copy anywhere — there's nowhere for a copy to be. Songs you downloaded are ordinary files in your Music folder, so they stay until you delete them like any other file.
Permission
Why
Music and audio files
To find and play the mp3 files already on your device
Notifications
To show playback controls while music plays in the background
Background playback service
To keep music playing while you use other apps
Internet access
To load and search music, stream and download songs from Audius, look up lyrics, and show ads
Tuniva does not request location, contacts, camera, microphone, SMS, or call permissions.
Tuniva's Discover screen lets you browse, search, stream and download music from Audius, an independent music catalogue, and the Now Playing screen can show lyrics from LRCLIB, a community lyrics service. No account is needed for either. Apart from ads (Section 5), these are the only parts of Tuniva that contact anything other than your device.
When you…
Tuniva sends
Open Discover
Requests to Audius for trending tracks, newly uploaded "fresh finds", and the curated genre and mood lists (for example, a search for "amapiano")
Search
The text you typed, to look for songs and artists
Open an artist, or tap "More from" an artist
That artist's identifier on Audius, to load their songs and similar artists
See "Because you like…" or "More from…" suggestions
The genre or artist you've played most, as a request for more like it. Only that one genre or artist is sent — not your list of songs or your history
Play a song
A request for that song's audio and cover art
Tap Download
A request for the song's audio file and cover art
Open the Lyrics tab
The song's title, artist, album and length, to LRCLIB — for any song, including ones on your device
With each request, the service receives your device's IP address and the ordinary technical details any internet connection includes (Audius also receives Tuniva's own identifying key). Tuniva does not send them your name, your playlists or Favourites, your listening history as a list, or your advertising identifier.
We don't see any of this. Requests go straight from your phone to Audius or LRCLIB — there is no Tuniva server in between. Tuniva doesn't save your searches; they are gone when you close the app. The "Recently Played" list and the suggestions are worked out on your device from what you play; you can clear Recently Played at any time from its playlist page.
What these services do with the requests they receive (for example, keeping server logs) is governed by their own policies, not this one: Audius Privacy Policy and LRCLIB.
Lyrics. Lyrics are looked up only when you open the Lyrics tab, never in the background. They belong to their rights holders, are shown for personal reading only, and may be incomplete or inaccurate.
Downloads. Download is offered only for songs whose artist has allowed it. A downloaded song is saved as an ordinary mp3 file in a "Tuniva" folder inside your Music folder, with its title, artist and cover art written into the file so it appears in your Library. It stays on your device. The music belongs to its artists, so please use it under the licence the artist has chosen. Tuniva does not moderate or age-rate what independent artists publish on Audius.
If you're offline, Discover can't load new music, but your own library, playlists and playback keep working.
Tuniva shows ads through Google's AdMob service — a small banner at the bottom of the Discover, Library and Playlists screens (and under Now Playing when you stream a song), an ad inside longer playlists, and a rewarded ad if you choose to unlock the alternate app themes. Watching that one ad unlocks every theme until you close Tuniva. Besides Audius and LRCLIB (Section 4), Google is the only other third party that receives information from Tuniva.
When you're shown or interact with an ad, Google's Mobile Ads SDK may collect and process:
Your device's advertising identifier
Your device's IP address, from which Google may infer a general (approximate) location — Tuniva itself never asks for your location
Basic device and app information, and diagnostics such as crash and performance data, used to deliver ads and prevent fraud
General app-interaction data (which ads were shown, tapped, or dismissed)
Information used to serve and measure ads, as described in Google's Privacy Policy and how Google uses information from partner sites and apps
Consent. Where required by law (for example, the EEA and UK), Tuniva shows a consent form — provided by Google's User Messaging Platform — before any ad is personalized, so you can choose whether to allow it. Whether that form applies to you is determined automatically by Google from the general region your connection appears to come from, not from any location permission — Tuniva doesn't request one.
Your choices. You can reset your advertising identifier or opt out of ad personalization generally from your device's own settings, independent of Tuniva.
Information stored on your device sits in Tuniva's private app storage, which other apps cannot read without your device being compromised (for example, rooted). Everything Tuniva sends over the network — requests to Audius and LRCLIB, and ad requests — uses encrypted connections (HTTPS).
We don't retain anything beyond your device, because we don't receive anything — see Sections 2 and 4. Information handled by Audius, LRCLIB and Google (through the AdMob SDK) is retained under their own policies, linked in Sections 4 and 5.
Tuniva is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has provided information through the app, contact us below and we'll look into it — though as Sections 2 and 4 explain, there is generally nothing for us to find on our end.
If Tuniva's data practices change — for instance, if a future feature starts sending information somewhere it doesn't today — we'll update this page and its "last updated" date above.
