Tung D. Phan was born and grew up in a small rice-farming village in central Vietnam. He received the BE in Electronics and Telecommunications from Vinh University, Vietnam in 2011, MS in Radio Engineering from Tula State University, Russia in 2015, and PhD degree in RF/antenna from Seoul National University of Science and Technology, Korea in 2021. From 2015 to 2018, he was with the School of Engineering and Technology, Vinh University as a Lecturer. Since Sep. 2021, he moved to Finland and has been working as a postdoc research fellow at the Centre of Wireless Communications, University of Oulu, Finland.
His primary research interest includes transparent antennas, reconfigurable metasurfaces, metamaterial-based absorbers, and electromagnetic shielding. Dr. Phan is the author/co-author of over 20 peer-reviewed journal and conference publications. He has been awarded the Best Paper Award at The IEIE Autumn Annual Conference in 2019, the Vietnamese Young Scientists in Korea Award and Best Ph.D. Thesis Award in 2021, and the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society Fellowship (APSF) in 2022. He is a member of IEEE and has served as a reviewer for prestigious journals in the Electrical and Electronics field.

May 18th, 2023: Paper entitled: "Hardware Aspects of Sub-THz Antennas and Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces for 6G Communications" has been accepted to IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications. This paper provides an in-depth analysis of the hardware aspect of antennas and RISs for sub-THz 6G.

May 23rd, 2022: Paper entitled: "Transparent Saltwater in Glass Structure: Simultaneous Tunable UHF Antenna and EMI Shielding Window" has been accepted for publication in IEEE Access.
March 29th, 2022: Research proposal on Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface (RIS) for sub-THz 6G communications has been approved by Proof-of-Concept (PoC) funding, University of Oulu.
March 24th, 2022: Paper "Bi-functional Saltwater-based Structure as UHF Antenna and EMI Shielding Window", has been accepted for presentation at the IEEE AP-S/URSI 2022 in Denver, Colorado, USA.

November 1st, 2021: Our paper entitled "Very Thin Structure based on Metal Mesh and Saltwater with High Transparency for Windows Against Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP)" has been accepted for presentation in IEEE ICCE-Asia 2021.
September 1st, 2021: I moved to Finland and have been working as a postdoc researcher at the Centre of Wireless Communications, University of Oulu.
August 26, 2021: I obtained my PhD degree. My doctoral research on optically transparent antennas for wireless communication is awarded the Best PhD Thesis Award.
August 1, 2021: I have been awarded the Vietnamese Young Scientists in Korea Award in recognition of outstanding research in the field of Information and Communication Technology.
July 17, 2021: Paper entitled "Transparent Liquid Multiple-Antenna Array with a High Gain and Beam Diversity for UHD TV Applications" has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science.
June 13, 2021: Paper entitled "A Wideband Liquid Antenna with High Optical Transparency for UHD-TV Applications " has been accepted for publication in Microwave and Optical Technology Letters.
June 6, 2021: Paper entitled "Lightweight, Ultra-wideband and Polarization Insensitive Metamaterial Absorber using Multilayer Dielectric Structure for C- and X-band Applications" has been accepted for publication in Physica Status Solidi B: Basic Solid State Physics. This paper has lead by Prof. Nguyen Thi Quynh Hoa at Vinh University, Vietnam.
June 1, 2021: I successfully defended my Ph.D. Dissertation under supervision of Prof. Chang Won Jung, which entitled "Optically Transparent Antennas for Wireless Communications".
April 7, 2021: Paper entitled "Planar Saltwater Analysis for Transparent Electromagnetic Shielding Applications", has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology.
January 28, 2021: Two accepted papers were published online on IEEE TAP and Scientific Reports.

September, 2018: I joined Microwave Device Lab at Seoul National University of Science and Technology (Seoultech), where I am pursuing my studies towards a Ph.D. degree under the supervision of Professor Chang Won Jung.
