Getting started
Finish the three onboarding steps. On the last one, tap Continue and choose whether TuneBench may use the microphone.
- Tune: open the Tune tab and play or sing a single note. The needle shows how many cents you are flat or sharp.
- Tempo: open the Tempo tab and tap Start. Drag the BPM number, use + and -, or tap TAP in time.
- Journal: tap Log on the Journal tab, or start the practice timer on Today and stop it to log the session.
Frequently asked questions
What is free and what needs TuneBench Pro?
Free: the chromatic tuner at A4 = 440 Hz in equal temperament, the metronome from 40 to 208 BPM in 2, 3 and 4 beats per bar, the practice timer and the last 7 days of your journal.
TuneBench Pro: historical temperaments and a custom A4 from 415 to 466 Hz, subdivisions, polyrhythms, odd meters and 30 to 260 BPM, your full journal history with a 14-day chart and CSV export, setlist tempos and the Home Screen widget.
The tuner says it needs the microphone. What do I do?
Open iPhone Settings > TuneBench and turn on Microphone, then return to the Tune tab. The metronome and journal work without the microphone.
Is my audio recorded?
No. Pitch is detected on your iPhone in real time. Audio is never recorded, saved or uploaded.
The tuner reads the wrong note or jumps around.
Play one note at a time, close to the microphone, in a quiet room. Check the A4 reference and temperament under the chip at the bottom of the Tune tab.
How do I restore a purchase?
Settings > Restore purchases, or Restore on the TuneBench Pro screen. Use the same Apple Account you bought with.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Settings > Manage subscription, or iPhone Settings > your name > Subscriptions > TuneBench. Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date to avoid the next charge.
How do I export my journal?
With TuneBench Pro, tap CSV on the Journal tab and choose where to send the file.
