Menu navigation and user experience
When you open a course in Blackboard, you'll see the name of the course, the course ID (also known as the CRN), and often (but not always) a course image at the top.
On the right, you'll see your instructor(s) under Course Faculty. You can click on their name to find contact information.
If your instructor has enabled it, you can view the Roster and see other students in your course.
You'll see this menu at the top of any course you're enrolled in.
You'll probably spend most of your time in Content, which is where your instructor will put all course information and materials such as assignments and readings. More information about the Content Area
The Calendar will show the due dates for all graded items that have due dates.
Course announcements will be in the Announcements area.
Discussions will be in the Discussions area. Sometimes discussions will also appear in the course content, but not always; you can always find discussion activity in Discussions.
All grading activity will be in the Gradebook.
In Messages, you can send and reply to messages from instructors, and sometimes from other students (if the instructor allows that).
If your class has group assignments, you will be able to participate in the Groups area.
A purple indicator next to a menu item means that there's something new there since the last time you visited. In the image above, there is one new message and new activity on 12 items in the Gradebook.
