When it comes to skills in employment, the first line of emphasis is typically towards abilities, training, and knowledge of specific skills. Soft skills are often disregarded, but they also play a foremost role in day-to-day operations. Job seekers with the necessary academic qualifications are aplenty. Finding the one ideal job seeker with complementary soft skills is the problem faced by many employers today. Though most employers do not usually state such a requirement in their job advertisements, soft skills are the skills they seek from their candidates. Many companies are willing to hire candidates who possess and demonstrate a high level of soft skills on top of their academic qualifications. Otherwise, most undergraduate programs in Sri Lankan universities are focused solely on providing academic qualifications. Therefore, it is palpable that there is a chasm between the skills a graduate possesses and what the employers anticipate from them. The soft skills development workshop "Touch the Peak" organized by the Career Skills Development Society in collaboration with the Career Guidance Unit, University of Sri Jayewardenepura aims to bridge this gap by providing the undergraduates of the university with an idea of the employer expectations, the importance of soft skills and on methods of how to progress them. This workshop series is done for almost all the faculties annually before the particular job fair episode. A complete awareness post series would be conducted, prior to the workshop series through the social media platforms such as Facebook, LinkedIn, and WhatsApp before the workshop series comes. Apart from that, all the students will be informed via email to their respective university email accounts. This year these workshops will be held virtually through the online platform as planned by the Career Guidance Unit. Further, this will provide an opportunity for professionals from the private and public sectors to interact with the undergraduates according to the recruitment criteria.
