If you want a rugged, corrosion-resistant fuel filtration system for GX-series engines in your fleet vehicles that ensures clean combustion, choose TSYCWQ 2; if you need a dual-function marine drain plug solution with both magnetic and non-magnetic options to catch metal particles or simply seal gear cases on outboard motors, choose BOXOB 2pcs. These are two distinct tools serving entirely different mechanical ecosystems, yet both appear when buyers search for reliable replacement parts. One keeps your gas-powered generators and small engines running smooth by filtering sediment, while the other protects your lower unit from fluid loss and contamination. I have analyzed the specifications and design intent of each to help you decide which belongs in your maintenance kit without getting confused by the product names.
• TSYCWQ 2: Its greatest strength is the rugged, corrosion-resistant plastic construction designed specifically for GX120 through GX390 engines, but it trades off universality since it only fits specific fuel line IDs. This pick is for owners of gasoline generators and small engines needing a direct replacement for Honda-style filters.
• BOXOB 2pcs: Its biggest advantage is the inclusion of both magnetic and non-magnetic drain plugs with gaskets, offering versatility for Mercury and MerCruiser systems, though it is strictly limited to marine lower units and excludes Verado series. This pick is for boaters who want to monitor gear lube health and ensure leak-proof sealing on stern drives.
The TSYCWQ 2-pack is engineered for a very specific niche within the world of small engine maintenance. It targets operators of GX120, GX160, GX200, GX240, GX270, GX340, and GX390 engines, as well as those running 168f, 172f, and 188f gasoline generator engines. If you manage a fleet of portable power sources or utility equipment powered by these Honda clones, this part is likely the exact match you need to keep the fuel system clean. The design focuses on trapping impurities, sediment, and debris before they reach the carburetor, which is critical for preventing clogs and ensuring consistent performance over time.
What makes this unit stand out is its material composition. Unlike some generic filters that might degrade quickly under harsh conditions, the TSYCWQ 2 utilizes high-quality, rugged corrosion-resistant plastic. This is not just a cosmetic choice; it means the filter can withstand exposure to fuel vapors, moisture, and the general grime found in outdoor work environments. The durability suggests it is built to last through multiple maintenance cycles without cracking or becoming brittle, which is a common failure point in cheaper alternatives. The package includes two units, allowing you to swap them out or keep one as a spare, which is essential for fleets where downtime must be minimized.

You should buy the TSYCWQ 2 if you are maintaining equipment that uses the specific part numbers 16955-ZE1-000 or 16955-ZE1-010. It is also the correct choice if your current setup relies on a 3/16" ID fuel line. However, you should skip this product if you are working on a different engine family or if your fuel line diameter does not match the specified 3/16". Compatibility is key here; using the wrong filter can lead to leaks or flow restrictions that defeat the purpose of the upgrade. It is a straightforward, no-frills solution for keeping the fuel clean in air-cooled, small-displacement engines.
On the other side of the aisle, the BOXOB 2pcs set addresses the unique demands of marine propulsion systems. This product is designed specifically for the lower unit drain plugs of Mercury, MerCruiser, and Mariner outboard engines and stern drives. The primary use case here is maintenance of the gear case, where fluid integrity is paramount. The package delivers a strategic combination: one magnetic screw and one non-magnetic screw, both accompanied by gaskets. This duality allows you to choose the right tool for the job based on whether you need to inspect the gear lube for metal shavings or simply perform a routine refill.
The construction of the BOXOB drain plugs speaks to the harsh environment of the water. Made from good-quality stainless steel and free-machining steels, combined with durable rubber gaskets, these components are built to resist the corrosive effects of saltwater and freshwater immersion. The magnetic variant serves a diagnostic purpose; as the gear oil circulates, the magnet collects tiny metal particles that indicate wear in the gears or bearings. Catching these particles early can prevent catastrophic failure, making the magnetic option a valuable addition to any serious boater's toolkit. The non-magnetic version provides a standard, reliable seal for situations where inspection isn't necessary or preferred.
This product is ideal for boat owners who maintain their own vessels and want a cost-effective way to replace worn-out drain plugs without losing the ability to monitor internal health. They fit 3/8-16 drain or fill hole screws, covering a wide range of models including the popular 10-20259 and 8M0058389 replacements. However, you must exclude Verado series engines from your compatibility list, as this product explicitly notes it is not designed for them. If you run a fleet of recreational boats or commercial fishing vessels with standard MerCruiser or Mercury outboards, this 2-pack offers significant value by providing two distinct solutions in one box.
• Best for fuel system protection → TSYCWQ 2, because its specialized plastic design traps sediment effectively for small engines.
• Best for gear lube monitoring → BOXOB 2pcs, as the magnetic plug actively collects metal particles from the oil.
• Best for fleet redundancy → Both offer 2-packs, but TSYCWQ 2 is better for engine continuity, while BOXOB 2pcs is better for emergency boat repairs.
• Best for corrosion resistance → BOXOB 2pcs wins slightly due to stainless steel construction, while TSYCWQ 2 relies on high-grade plastic.
• Best for specific engine compatibility → TSYCWQ 2 for GX-series generators; BOXOB 2pcs for Mercury/MerCruiser outboards.
• Best for ease of installation → Both require careful size verification, but BOXOB 2pcs includes gaskets for a guaranteed seal, whereas TSYCWQ 2 requires checking fuel line ID.
• Best for long-term durability → TSYCWQ 2 for continuous vibration resistance in engines; BOXOB 2pcs for submersion and pressure resistance in water.
• Best for diagnostic capability → BOXOB 2pcs, because the magnetic plug gives you insight into the mechanical health of your lower unit.
In my opinion, the choice between these two products depends entirely on the vehicle type you are servicing, as they solve completely different problems. If you are managing a fleet of vehicles equipped with gasoline generators or small industrial engines, the TSYCWQ 2 is the superior choice because its robust plastic construction directly addresses the need for clean fuel delivery in high-vibration environments. Conversely, if your fleet consists of watercraft, the BOXOB 2pcs is the clear winner due to the smart inclusion of both magnetic and non-magnetic options, which adds a layer of safety and diagnostics that a single-plug solution cannot match. I would personally stock the TSYCWQ 2 for any land-based power equipment and the BOXOB 2pcs for any marine asset to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
No, neither product is universal. The TSYCWQ 2 fits only GX120 through GX390 engines and 3/16" fuel lines, while the BOXOB 2pcs fits Mercury, MerCruiser, and Mariner outboards but excludes the Verado series. Always verify your specific model numbers before buying.
Yes, the BOXOB 2pcs package comes with gaskets for both the magnetic and non-magnetic screws, ensuring a reliable, leak-proof seal for your lower unit drain holes.
The TSYCWQ 2 fuel filter is constructed from rugged, corrosion-resistant plastic, which is designed to effectively trap impurities and sediment without corroding in the presence of fuel.
While the BOXOB 2pcs replaces many part numbers for Mercury and MerCruiser engines, you must confirm the size matches your 3/8-16 drain hole and ensure your engine is not a Verado model, which is excluded from compatibility.
