On Friday, January 24, 2025, we were able to be at Serve Day at Greenville Tech Charter High School. We awarded 4 students (one from each grade level) and 1 faculty member with a Tryston's Hope Service Award.
At GTCHS, Tryston encountered so many dear people who loved him and demonstrated this to him. Today we are here to honor those who demonstrate the same heart that Tryston possessed.
The students who will receive these Tryston’s Hope Service Awards were nominated by GTCHS faculty and staff based upon the following criteria:
-exhibits a service mindset who consistently puts others needs in front of their own
-exhibits a positive, helpful and respectful attitude toward fellow classmates and teachers
-actively participates in local community service initiatives and events
The nominations were then reviewed by a special selection committee and recipients chosen.
Freshmen Award:
This student has a love for teaching, and serving others. She has been involved in many service and leadership roles and her goal is to leave the world a better place and to make the biggest positive impact she can. In the summer, she hosts a summer camp for little girls for free. This camp allows girls to explore nature, arts, adventure, and more while gaining confidence and learning valuable life skills. She plays two varsity sports at GTCHS. On the swim team she helped to take them to state, and now on the basketball team she is learning how to work with others, developing a good, disciplined character. She has also gotten plugged into the school through the social media team. She has loved getting to promote the school, and uses her creative ability to make a positive change. She is working towards being an ambassador, and being in the National Honor Society. She strives to balance this service mindset while still being a good role model to other students. One of the places she has made a big impact is through church. She loves working in the children's church, allowing parents to have a stress free service to further their relationship with Christ. We are thrilled to present this year’s Tryston’s Hope Award to
Piper Schreel
Sophomore Award:
This student has made an impression since he started school last year. He is always so positive, polite, and kind. When it comes to dress out days - he is a smash! Recently wearing a big blue Lilo and Stitch onesie. Working as a junior leader at the Boys and Girls Club summer camps, this student has already exceeded his required service hours for graduation as a sophomore! He plans to be a teacher as a future career and will make a wonderful impact on his students, school, and community. He has quiet leadership qualities that demand respect with a great sprinkling of humor. He's a scholar servant whose mindset puts others before himself. He's always helpful and respectful to his peers and his teachers.
As a deserving winner of this award, the Boys and Girls Club and GTCHS are lucky to have
Okechukwu Nwamarah.
Junior Award:
This young man exudes service. Whether it’s serving on boards, organizing projects, volunteering at various organizations, or just helping other students, he strives to put others above himself. Not only has he already volunteered at different organizations throughout the community for far above the 200 service hours required to graduate, but he does it willingly and with such a positive and giving attitude, expecting no recognition in return. He is known to be helpful and brighten the days of others around him. He is humble, kind, and inclusive. As a Teen Executive Board Member and Vice President of the Ronald McDonald House, he has dedicated countless hours to improving the lives of families in need. He is responsible for organizing multiple in-school drives to benefit children during their time of need. In addition, he has volunteered at Prisma Health and Bon Secours Hospitals, offering his time and compassion to support healthcare professionals and patients alike. He maintains a positive, helpful, and respectful attitude toward his peers and teachers. While he does not expect any recognition, he recently received the President's Volunteer Service Award which speaks volumes to the immense time, dedication, and service he gives to others. We could not be more proud of his example or excited to award the Tryston’s Hope Service Award to
Wilson Quarles
Senior Award:
This senior does not have to worry about logging 200 hours since she exceeded that requirement long ago. It is clear that she has never viewed volunteering as something to check off the to-do list because she continued to take on leadership roles with Students in Action and Future Physicians club She was instrumental in organizing a back to school drive for underserved students at Alexander Elementary School. As part of the National Honor Society, GTCHS Beta Club and as a GTCHS School Ambassador, she has participated in countless drives to include the Cinderella Project with the Young Lawyers Bar Association and the Samaritan Box project. Off campus, she has also served as Girl Scouts Troop President. On campus, she has assisted with set up for various school events, presented numerous times at Intake and Information Night to prospective parents and students, and led countless tours at GTCHS on her own time. This year, she even approached administration about how to create more school spirit at all athletic events, offering to organize and lead spirit related activities before the games. She is noted by her advisor as having all the qualities one would expect a recipient of this award to embody; she is caring, kind, enthusiastic, hard-working, and consistently displays a positive attitude that is focused on serving others.
We’re proud to present this year’s Tryston’s Hope Senior Award to
Mallory Hart
Faculty Award:
Lastly, we wanted to present a faculty award to a most deserving individual-
This faculty member is truly an unsung hero at GTCHS. She is a “jack of all trades” here at the school. She works in the background with most of what she does unseen by others. Working behind the scenes, she would never expect any recognition which is one of her many great qualities. She has an uncanny ability to know exactly what everyone needs and in all the years of working alongside her, she has never been observed without a smile on her face and a positive attitude. If you have ever wondered how the Charter Cafe and the Bodega area are always fully stocked, it’s because she is constantly on top of all things, making sure that all the necessary items for both teachers and students are always stocked! When asked by the Parents in Partnership about why this person exemplifies a servant’s heart, they were quick to point out that she goes above and beyond to ask others if they need help with things that aren’t part of her job description and always does any task with a positive attitude that rooted in her desire to help others. She is friendly and kind to all. Above all, her attitude exemplifies what it means to be a Warrior. Her humble attitude and servant’s heart is something we can all work to emulate. GTCHS is proud to award This year’s Tryston’s Hope Staff Award is awarded to
Ms. Tracie Scheuerl.
On Thursday, May 9 we were honored to award two seniors and one teacher with a Tryston's Hope Service Award at Greenville Tech Charter High School. Congratulations to this year's award recipients.
1 John 4:19
We love because He first loved us.
The students who received the 2024 Tryston’s Hope Service Awards were nominated by GTCHS faculty and staff based upon the following criteria:
-exhibits a service mindset who consistently puts others needs in front of their own
-exhibits a positive, helpful and respectful attitude toward fellow classmates and teachers
-actively participates in local community service initiatives and events
The nominations were then reviewed by a special selection committee and recipients chosen.
Freshmen Award:
This freshman award goes to a student whose nomination states, “The strongest negative emotion I’ve seen on her face can best be described as ‘mildly irritated’ at most.” She is described as someone who is quick to speak of for others, helpful to classmates who have been absent, and proactive in the community serving others. One teacher stated, “She genuinely seems to be at her best when helping others.” Congratulations, Claire von Clef.
Sophomore Award:
The Class of 2026 is full of amazing servant leaders who made our job really difficult to select just one. Ultimately, our sophomore award goes to a student who already has almost 200 hours of community service. In addition to that, though, the person who nominated him noted, “He’s a good listener and empathetic to his peers. He hops at the chance to help others - whether its assisting a student navigating a new schedule, delivering materials to the foodbank, or helping his 65 year old advisor with technology. adults with technology as needed. He consistently demonstrates leadership and kindness to all.” Congratulations, Noah Raduns!
Junior Award:
Our junior award is going to a student who quietly serves her community outside of school. Last summer, bored at home and looking for ways she could complete community service, she researched local non-profits and stumbled upon Safe Harbor. She decided to put up signs in her neighborhood and organize a drive to contribute items to the Safe Harbor home. While she is primarily in college classes, a teacher noted, “She is a wonderful student who is always sweet, kind, and positive. I rarely see her without a smile on her face.” Congratulations, Jenelle Martin.
Senior Award:
Our final student award goes to a senior who brings a joy to everyone every day. On her nomination, it was noted that she has “the ability to listen to other students with empathy” that demonstrates a maturity beyond her years. It does on to say that she is a “friend to everyone who will help anyone.” Her personal drive is impressive and her heart for others is pure gold. Congratulations, Sofia Morales-Marin.
Lastly, we presented a faculty award. This person is the epitome of service to others. A consistent and positive presence, she exudes calm and graciousness. She consistently seeks ways to assist others and be helpful - whether students or adults. Never failing to see the silver lining when things are going awry, she is who reminds us that the world is still round and that a hard day isn’t a bad day. Thank you for modeling kindness, compassion, and inclusivity for all. Congratulations, Sarah Goodnough.
Thank you again, GTCHS!

On Friday, October 20, 2023 we had the privilege of providing breakfast for the faculty and staff at Greenville Tech Charter High School. We were also able to award one teacher with a Tryston’s Hope GTCHS Service Award.
"It is always difficult to come and honor just one person at GTCHS because all of you epitomize what this award means to us in so many different ways. This fall we wanted to honor a faculty member new to GTCHS. Becoming part of a new school can be difficult because you have to learn a new culture and new faculty members. The new teachers, however, have already discovered the Warrior Way and this person has stood out as one of the teachers who have fully embraced what we do here at GTCHS. This person has been there for her students - attending multiple events they participate in and assisting them as they navigated some tough academic and mental/emotional life situations in the first nine weeks; she also started a new club that students requested, and is currently planning a community service outing with students. She definitely pours her time, service, and love into her students.
Congratulations to Autumn Phillips for being selected to receive the Tryston’s Hope GTCHS Service Award."
Thursday, October 12, 2023 wrapped up the fall season of baseball for Mauldin Rec 14U. We were honored to be there to award 2 players (one from each Mauldin 14U team) with a Tryston’s Hope Award. These players were chosen by their coaches for their hard work and positive attitude on the field and toward their teammates. Any of these boys could have been selected and it was a difficult decision for the coaches.
Congratulations to Jovani and Kane for being selected to receive the Fall Baseball 2023 Tryston’s Hope Award.
We also had the opportunity to share about Tryston and about testicular cancer with the players and their families. Testicular Cancer is the #1 leading cancer in young men age 13-35. Beginning at age 13 boys should be checking themselves monthly. When detected early, testicular cancer has a high survival rate, however it is an aggressive cancer and spreads quickly if not detected early. Please visit the Mayo Clinic website for more information on testicular cancer and how to check for it.
We were also able to share the Gospel and the hope we, as a family have. 1 Peter 3 tells us to always be ready to share the hope we have with others. It is because of Jesus' love for us...
for His willingness to suffer and die on the cross for our sins and be raised again...that we have hope. Tryston believed and professed Jesus as his Lord and Savior, so we know that one day we will be reunited with him in Heaven.
"But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander. For it is better, if it is God’s will, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil. For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit."
1 Peter 3:15-18
Psalm 139:1-18
You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely. You hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain. Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,” even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you. For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand— when I awake, I am still with you.
Congratulations to these boys on being selected by their coaches to receive this year's Mauldin Recreation Youth Baseball Tryston’s Hope Awards. These players were chosen for working hard, encouraging their teammates, and for being a positive influence on the field and in the dugout. Congratulations to each of you for all of your hard work!
Thank you, Mauldin Rec, for allowing us, Tryston’s Hope, the opportunity to award and recognize these players for their hard work this spring season.

On Thursday, May 11, 2023 we were blessed with the opportunity to return to GTCHS for Awards Night for the Class of 2023. We awarded 2 seniors with the first Tryston’s Hope Service Awards and 3 faculty members with Tryston’s Hope Faculty Awards. Congratulations to seniors Maggie Hill (274 hours) and Elliot Turner (600+ hours) for receiving the fisrt Tryston's Hope Service Awards. Congratulations to Ms. Burrow, Ms. Sheurl, and Ms. Anothony for receiving the Tryston's Hope Faculty Awards...it was such a blessing to surprise these three wonderful ladies.
6 years ago on May 12, 2017 was Tryston’s Awards Day for the Class of 2017 and his Senior Luncheon. Tryston graduated from GTCHS top 10 in his class, Palmetto Fellow, Summa Cum Laude, with 56 college credit hours. He went on to graduate from Clemson University on the Dean’s List with a BS in Mechanical Engineering.
Greenville Tech Charter High School: "Here at GTCHS, we believe that “to whom much is given, much is required.” Community Service is a cornerstone of our charter and a minimum of 200 hours are required for graduation; this class had to have that requirement curtailed due to COVID for both their freshmen and sophomore year. Despite that, the Class of 2023 still accumulated over 14,300 hours of service to their community.
In the past, we have always given a community service award to seniors who have exhibited a commitment of service to others, are always willing to help, and who are consistently putting the needs of others in front of their own. This year, we are honored to rename this award in honor of Tryston Crawford. It will henceforth be known as the The GTCHS Tryston's Hope Service Award."
Last year we met sweet Ella Rose after we hosted the first annual Swamp Rabbit Trail Invitational Softball Tournament and after sharing the Gospel with her softball team at a later time. She reached out to us shortly after and told us that she wanted to get plugged into a Gospel Group we were leading for middle and high school aged girls. She began attending the Gospel Group and church with us and has truly became part of our family.
Yesterday (Sunday, April 23, 2023) her and Mrs. Joy tracked us down after church. We had stopped by Tryston’s memorial and just so happens that while we were there we were talking about Ella Rose. As we were walking back to the car Joy and Ella Rose were crossing the street to talk to us. She shared with us that she has given her life to Christ and that she wants to follow through in believers baptism. She then ask Kevin the sweetest question, "Will you baptize me, Mr. Kevin?"
If you can, please join us this Sunday (4-30-23) evening for the 5:00 service at Rocky Creek Church. Kevin will have the honor of baptizing Ella Rose. We are so thankful that God brought sweet Ella Rose into our lives. Please pray for her as she continues to grow in Christ and pray for the example she is to others around her..

On Tuesday, October 25, 2022 the two Mauldin Rec 14U baseball teams played a game in honor and memory of Tryston. Tryston had coached many of the boys on both teams during his 6 years volunteering at Mauldin Recreation. Tryston's younger brother, Kaden (KK), threw out the first pitch to his good buddy who has been playing baseball with him since they were 7 years old. We are so grateful to Mauldin Recreation and all of the coaches, parents, and players for helping to make this a wonderful evening in Tryston's memory. Tryston was diagnosed on October 29, 2021 with stage 3C testicular cancer.

God Rules: The Bible tells us that God created everything, and He is in charge of everything (Genesis 1:1; Revelations 4:11; Colossians 1:16-17)
We Sinned: Since the beginning of time everyone has chosen to disobey God (Romans 3:23). The Bible calls this sin. Because God is holy, God will not be around sin. Sin separates us from God and deserves God’s punishment of death (Romans 6:23).
God Provided: John 3:16 tells us that God sent His Son, Jesus, the perfect solution to our sin problem, to rescue us from the punishment we deserve. It’s something we, as sinners, could never earn on our own. Jesus alone saves us (Ephesians 2:8-9).
Jesus Gives: Jesus lived a perfect life but chose to die on the cross for our sins. Jesus rose from the dead after three days. Because Jesus gave up His life for us, we can be welcomed into a right relationship with God and be part of His family for eternity. This is the best gift ever (Romans 5:8; 2 Corinthians 5:21; 1 Peter 3:18).
We Respond: It’s not enough to just know the Good News! We must respond to the Gospel. In order to spend eternal life with God one must ADMIT to God that you are a sinner. REPENT and turn away from self and sin to Jesus (Romans 3:23; 6:23; Acts 3:19; 1 John 1:9). BELIEVE in your heart that Jesus alone saves you through what He has already done on the cross (John 3:16; 14:6, Romans 5:8). CONFESS to others that Jesus is your Lord and Savior (Romans 10:9-10, 13).
We would love the opportunity to share with your team, group, or organization.
Please email us to schedule a time for devotion.
What a blessing to be a part of the Hayden King Memorial Softball Tournament that took place at Tyger River on Saturday, August 20, 2022. It was a great show of support for the King family. At 7:30 a.m. Kevin was able to share a devotional time with the softball players and their families. We were also able to give Bibles to the players and their families. Please continue to pray for the King family and for Hayley.
"On Saturday, August 20, 2022 DC Fastpitch will host the 6th annual Hayden King Memorial tournament. We have 51 teams playing in this great event, which was a record!! We can’t thank all of you enough for always supporting and helping our local community. We always like to take the time at this event and do the Lord’s work. Every year we hold a devotional before the tournament gets started. Last year our dear friend Dana Jenkins lead our devotional and lead many to the Lord. This year we have a special speaker, Kevin Crawford. Kevin and family run Tryston’s Hope in honor of their son that lost his life to testicular cancer last year. Please come hear their story and a short devotional. This devotional will be held in the open area behind the club house at Tyger River at 7:30 am. Kevin and his family have been blessed with many bibles from a local church and will be handing out free bibles to anyone that wants one. Please feel free to attend this devotional and take home a Bible for your athlete. Tryston’s story and what the Crawford family does is amazing and I hope as many as can will attend." ~ Ohana Tigers & DC Fastpitch
Tryston's Hope was blessed with the opportunity to recognize this beautiful, sweet young lady. She has a smile that brightens any room and she is so loving & sweet to everyone. We were so thankful to be able to take her lunch and share with her how much Jesus loves her. Earlier this year (March 4th) Hayley was diagnosed with ALL (acute lymphoblastic leukemia) during the SRT Invitational Softball Tournament that Tryston’s Hope sponsored. She began chemo treatments on March 7th and received word on June 24th that she is officially cancer free and in remission. Hayley still has a long road ahead of her as treatments will continue to keep the leukemia out of her blood and she will enter phase 3 very soon. Please continue to join us in praying for Hayley and her family. You can follow Hayley's story on her Facebook Group page Love4Hayley.
Congratulations to each of the players chosen by their coaches to recieve the Tryston's Hope Award.

For 15+ years Tryston participated as an athlete and volunteer coach at Mauldin Recreation. He was recognized by the Mayor of Mauldin and Mauldin Recreation in December 2021 for his time spent volunteering as a coach and mentor to these athletes. He loved coaching and being on the field with these boys. What a blessing it was to be able to recognize these young athletes in Tryston’s memory and honor.
