This policy explains what data the Truth or Dare mobile app collects, why it is collected, who it is shared with, and the choices you have. It is written to match what the app actually does — every item below corresponds to real behaviour in the shipped build.
We do not ask for an account. No name, no email address, no phone number, no sign-in. We cannot identify you personally.
The truths and dares you write stay on your phone. Their text is never transmitted to us or to anyone else.
We do collect anonymous usage statistics and show ads, both through Google services, so we can understand how the game is played and keep it free.
In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland you are asked for consent before any personalised advertising happens, and you can change that choice at any time in Settings.
The game is designed to run offline. The following is stored only in the app's private storage on your phone, is not backed up to us, and is not accessible to us or to any third party:
The text of every truth and dare — both the ones included with the app and any you write yourself.
Which prompts you have marked as favourites, edited, or deleted.
Which categories are switched on or off for a round.
Your sound, music, haptics and theme preferences.
Uninstalling the app permanently deletes all of it. You can also erase your custom content at any time using Settings → Reset to defaults.
We use Google Analytics for Firebase to understand how the game is used in aggregate — which categories are popular, where players stop, whether a feature is being found. This data is not used to identify you.
What is collected:
Gameplay events: A round started, the bottle landed, Truth or Dare chosen, a prompt revealed or re-drawn, a round abandoned, screens viewed
Category information: The name and emoji of a category — including the name of any custom category you create — and whether it is a default or custom one
Prompt activity: That a prompt was created, edited, deleted, restored or favourited; its category; whether it was Truth or Dare; and the number of characters it contains
Counts and settings: How many custom prompts and categories you have, how many categories are enabled, an approximate range for how many rounds you have played, and whether sound, music, haptics and notifications are on or off
Advertising consent: The outcome of the consent choice described in section 3.3
Collected automatically by Firebase: A randomly generated app-instance identifier, device model, operating system version, app version, language, and approximate location at country level (derived from IP address)
What is never collected: the text of any truth or dare. When you write a prompt, only its length as a number is recorded — never its content. Nothing you type into a prompt is transmitted anywhere.
Please note: if you give a custom category a name that contains personal information (for example, a friend's full name), that name is included in the analytics event. We recommend not putting personal details in category names.
We do not set any user identifier of our own, and we do not attempt to link this data to you as an individual.
We use Firebase Cloud Messaging to send occasional notifications about new content and updates.
When notifications are enabled, Firebase issues your device a registration token — a random identifier for the installation, not for you — and the app subscribes it to general audiences (all users, and Android or iOS users).
On Android 13 and later, notifications appear only after you grant the notification permission. You may decline, and you can revoke it at any time in your device's system settings. The game is fully playable without it.
We record whether the permission was granted or denied, and whether a notification was received or opened.
The app is free and is funded by ads served through Google AdMob.
Google may collect and process your advertising identifier, IP address, device information and interactions with ads in order to serve and measure them. This is governed by Google's own policies, linked in section 6.
In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, and in US states with applicable privacy laws, a consent form from Google's User Messaging Platform appears before any personalised ads are shown. Your choice is recorded by Google and honoured on every subsequent launch.
You can review or withdraw that choice at any time via Settings → Privacy & ad settings. Withdrawing consent takes effect immediately.
We do not request child-directed ad treatment because the app is not intended for children (see section 9), and we limit ad content to a teen-and-below maturity rating.
Each time the app launches, it downloads a small configuration file from our server over HTTPS. This file controls whether ads are shown, which links appear in Settings, and whether an update is required.
This is a one-way download. No information about you or your game is uploaded in this request. As with any web request, our hosting provider's logs may record your IP address, the time of the request, and standard browser-style headers for security and reliability purposes. If the server cannot be reached, the app continues to work using its last downloaded copy.
Internet access (INTERNET): Downloading the configuration file, loading ads, sending analytics, and receiving notifications
Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS): Showing push notifications on Android 13 and later. Optional — you are asked, and may refuse
Advertising ID (AD_ID): Allows Google AdMob to serve and measure ads. Its use is subject to the consent choice described in section 3.3
The app does not request access to your contacts, camera, microphone, photos, files, precise location, call logs, or SMS.
Where the UK GDPR or EU GDPR applies, our legal bases are:
Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) — for personalised advertising and for push notifications. You give it explicitly and may withdraw it at any time.
Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) — for anonymous usage analytics, crash-free operation, and non-personalised advertising, so that we can improve the game and keep it free of charge. We have assessed that these interests are not overridden by your rights, because the data is not used to identify you.
We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with anyone other than the service providers below, each of which processes it under its own privacy policy:

These providers process data on servers that may be located outside your country, including in the United States. Where required, such transfers rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or an equivalent safeguard adopted by the provider.
On your device: until you delete the content, use Reset to defaults, or uninstall the app.
Analytics: retained by Google Analytics for Firebase according to the retention period configured for our project, after which it is deleted or aggregated.
Advertising: retained by Google in line with its own policies.
Server logs: retained by our hosting provider for a short period for security and diagnostics.
Truth or Dare is not intended for children. It contains a "Spicy" category and allows players to write their own prompts, so it is directed at a mature audience. We do not knowingly collect data from children, and the app is not configured for child-directed advertising treatment.
If you believe a child has used the app and you would like their device's data removed, contact us at the address in section 12 and we will assist.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict the processing of your data, to object to processing, to data portability, and to lodge a complaint with your data protection authority. Because we hold no account and no identifier that points to you personally, we may be unable to locate data relating to you specifically — but you can exercise practical control directly:
Advertising: change or withdraw consent in Settings → Privacy & ad settings. You can also reset or delete your advertising ID in your device settings (Android: Settings → Google → Ads).
Notifications: revoke the notification permission in your device settings.
Your content: delete individual prompts, or use Settings → Reset to defaults.
Everything: uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data.
Please note that the app does not currently offer an in-app switch to turn analytics off. To stop analytics collection entirely, uninstall the app.

Data sent between the app and our services is encrypted in transit using HTTPS. Data stored on your device is held in the app's private storage area, which other apps cannot read. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
If we change this policy we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where the change is significant, give notice in the app. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the updated policy.
