On November 14, 2025, Henkel welcomed 16 Trumbull High students to their office to learn more about career pathways in chemistry, chemical engineering, and packaging engineering. We started our morning learning about Henkel and the products they produce such as laundry detergents, hand soap, adhesives and hair dye. We also had the opportunity to take a tour through some areas of the building and participate in experiments along the way. One scientist demonstrated single dose liquid pac dissolution. An intern demonstrated drop tests in packaging. We also learned about fragrance technology and chromatography. Students even had the opportunity to create their own laundry detergent that they were able to bring home! Students left this field trip with a greater understanding about various career pathways in chemistry, chemical engineering and packaging engineering. A huge thank you to Dr. Janet Coope-Epstein and Henkel for providing this opportunity for students. Also, special thanks to BEI and the Town of Trumbull for providing transportation for our students.
BEI’s Purpose and Objectives
Now in its 27th year, the Trumbull Business-Education Initiative (BEI) is a vibrant partnership involving members of our Business, Education, Community, and Town Government constituencies.
It provides opportunities for Trumbull’s public and private K-12 students to learn about careers and to help them develop an understanding of various work environments, all designed to help them be well-prepared to make educated choices as they transition from the high school environment. Trumbull BEI aims to help students to ‘BE’ (Business Education) Ready for what’s next.
Vision
BEI’s vision holds that working together, representatives of business, education, community, and town government can help to motivate and greatly enhance the understanding of post-high school alternative paths toward higher education or vocational training as well as the work world as K-12 students learn about options available to them following high school graduation.
Mission
The mission of BEI is to utilize the partnership to develop an environment in which all involved students can acquire an understanding of the needs and requirements of the work world while helping them develop an appreciation of these demands as they make well-informed decisions about their futures. BEI strives to:
Improve the business community’s understanding of the educational community
Develop an improved understanding of the roles required of business and education to assure student career awareness and preparedness
Assure that business requirements of the work skills and work habits are found in the curriculum
Provide business and professional expertise to the educational community
Develop a medium for informing, guiding, and motivating students about the career and work process
Provide funding for such activities using a tax-exempt foundation
