Science Center Resources
Tutoring and other resources at the Science Center are FREE for all CCC students to use, regardless of home campus or which campus the science course is held
Appointment Modality
Tutoring appointments can be in-person (McKeon 177) or remote via Zoom (993-0555-6913)
Appointment Length
50 minutes
Tutors may choose to continue working with a student past 50 minutes if they do not have another scheduled appointment or walk-in to assist (maximum of an additional 30 minutes)
Appointment Limits
Per day: Students can have one (1) appointment per subject, per day. This includes walk-ins (students cannot have a scheduled appointment and a walk-in on the same day for the same class)
There is a maximum of three (3) appointments on the books, at a time
Recurring Appointments
Students can schedule one (1) weekly appointment with a tutor with coordinator approval
Weekly appointments will be cancelled if the student no-shows two (2) times
No-shows
Students are considered a no-show after 10 minutes
The appointment slot can be given to another student after 10 minutes if the student has not contacted to cancel or inform the clerical staff that they will be late
After three (3) no-shows, the student will lose the ability to schedule in advance for that semester and any remaining appointments will be canceled (the student must speak with the coordinator before they can continue scheduling appointments)
Late
If you anticipate being more than 10 minutes late to your appointment, please let us know (this is better than being marked as a no-show and your appointment be given to another student)
Cancelations
While we hope you don't have to cancel an appointment, it is better to cancel than be marked as a no-show (cancelations can be done up until the time of the appointment)
Group Appointments
Students may schedule a group appointment only if the tutor is able to accommodate
Group appointments are limited to a maximum of three (3) students
A student may not join an already existing group appointment; this changes the dynamics of the group
Walk-ins
A student may come to the Science Center without an appointment; however, a tutor may not be available (it is strongly recommended to schedule an appointment to ensure a tutor is present to help)
Drop-ins
Students can drop in to use the space to study and consult a tutor briefly, if available, as needed
Clerical staff should check students out when they leave
Lab Tutoring
Students may schedule a lab tutoring appointment only if a tutor is able to accommodate
Lab tutoring is limited to a maximum of two (2) students performing the same exact experiment due to safety concerns
Lab tutoring appointments are also 50 minutes in length (to maximize the lab tutoring appointment, students must have completed the prelab and must provide all the materials)
Textbooks and other materials
Students can check out resources (textbook, calculator, model, etc.) by leaving their ID with the clerical staff
Resources are not to be taken out of the Science Center
Models must be removed and replaced only by the staff
Printing
During appointments/drop-ins, students are allowed to print necessary materials for their tutoring sessions
Staff should be monitoring what is printed: documents should be school related and not excessive (multiple copies of the same thing, printing more than 20 pages)
If students ask to print in the Science Center outside of an appointment or drop-in, they should be directed to the library
Study Room
Students may reserve the Study Room for one (1) hour if it is available
A group may reserve the Study Room for one (1) hour, if available, but the group is limited to a maximum of five (5) individuals due to safety concerns
Study Room use is limited to one (1) hour (a student or a group may continue using the room for 1-hrintervals as long as there are no other reservations)
Students will be asked to leave the Study Room if it is being used beyond its intended capacities (e.g., biology or chemistry experiments)
