Resources
Tutoring and other resources are FREE for any CCC students enrolled in the current term, regardless of home campus or which campus the science course is held
These services and resources are included in tuition
Tutoring Modalities
Tutoring can be conducted in-person or remotely via Zoom
Tutoring Length
50 minutes
If tutors do not have a student in the next hour, at the tutor's discretion, they may continue with the current student to complete a topic and summarize the session
If a walk-in student shows up, the tutor must end the extended session, write the report, and assist the walk-in student
Appointment Limits
Per day, students can have one appointment per subject. This includes walk-ins (students cannot have a scheduled appointment and a walk-in on the same day for the same class, unless the walk-in is with a different tutor)
There is a maximum of three appointments on the books, at a time. Once an appointment is completed, another appointment can be made.
No-shows
Students are considered a no-show after 10 minutes of their scheduled appointment have elapsed
The appointment slot can be given to another student if the student has not contacted to cancel or informed us that they will be late
After three no-shows, the student will lose the ability to schedule appointments in advance for that term and any remaining appointments will be canceled (the student must speak with the coordinator before they can continue scheduling appointments)
In the meantime, the student can walk in to see a tutor
Lateness
If you anticipate being late to your appointment, please let us know and the tutor will wait for you
If you are late and the tutor has an appointment in the next hour, the session must end 10 minutes prior to the hour
If you are late and the tutor does not have an appointment in the next hour, the session can continue for a total of 50 minutes
If you were late, did not notify us, and the tutor ended up helping another student, you will have to reschedule your appointment for another time
Rescheduling
Please call us if you need to reschedule your appointment
Appointments can be rescheduled at any point in time prior the time of the appointment
Cancelations
While we hope you don't have to cancel an appointment, we understand
Cancellations can be made until the time of the appointment
Group Appointments
Students may schedule a group appointment as long as they are in the same course and section
Group appointments are limited to a maximum of three students
A student or two may join an already existing appointment, only if they are in the same course and section, and both the student and tutor allow it (however, there is no expectation for either the student or the tutor to allow it)
Walk-ins
A student may walk in to see a tutor without an appointment
However, a tutor may not be available (it is strongly recommended to schedule an appointment to ensure a tutor is present to help)
Drop-ins
Students can drop in to use the space to study
Drop in students may consult a tutor periodically to ask a question or two
Lab Tutoring
Students may schedule lab tutoring appointments
In these appointments tutors supervise, clarify instructions, and relate the practice to the theory
Due to safety concerns, lab tutoring is limited to a maximum of two students performing the same exact experiment
Lab tutoring appointments are also 50 minutes in length (to maximize the lab tutoring, students must have completed the prelab and have all the materials)
Recurring Appointments
Recurring appointments are limited to students who require additional support from a notetaker or interpreter
Due to the number of individuals involved, scheduling is challenging, and is handled by the coordinator
These appointments may be cancelled, but they cannot be changed from the agreed upon day and time
If the notetaker or interpreter does not show up to an appointment, the appointment will have to be cancelled
Recurring appointments will be terminated if the student no-shows two times
Textbooks and other materials
Students can check out resources (textbook, headset, calculator, model, etc.) by surrendering their ID with the staff
Resources are for in house use and cannot to be taken out of the Science Center
Models must be removed and replaced only by the staff
Printing
Students are allowed to print necessary materials for their tutoring sessions
Staff should be monitoring what is printed: documents should be school related and not excessive (multiple copies of the same thing, printing more than 20 pages)
If students ask to print in the Science Center outside of tutoring, they should be directed to the library
Study Room (Not Available for Summer 2026)
Students may reserve the Study Room for one hour if it is available
A group may reserve the Study Room for one hour, if available, but the group is limited to a maximum of five individuals due to safety concerns
Study Room use is limited to one hour (a student or a group may continue using the room for 1-hr intervals as long as there are no other reservations)
Students will be asked to leave the Study Room if it is being used beyond its intended capacities (e.g., biology or chemistry experiments)
