In her teenage years, Ju-kyung Lim has been treated unfairly by her family and bullied by her enemies due to being perceived as ugly. She starts learning how to use makeup by binge-watching tutorial videos on the Internet. She masters the art and her makeover proves to be gorgeously transformative as she quickly rises to fame and people become awed at the sight of her newfound beauty. Soon, she makes an unlikely relationship with two of the most handsome, most popular boys at school: Lee Su-ho, who is the first to recognize her beyond her makeup, and Han Seo-jun, a "bad boy" who is not on good terms with Suho. Living in a society where people are judged based on their physical appearance, Jugyeong navigates through her high school days and into her college life while struggling to keep her makeup-less face a secret and facing various challenges with her self-esteem, love life and career.

After a break from webcomics, Yaongyi returned to working on True Beauty in her mid-twenties and changed its protagonist to the current female character Lim Ju-kyung but she kept the WEBTOON's theme of "true beauty," i.e. one's inner goodness is better than one's physical appearance.[2] In an interview with Naver WEBTOON, she explained that though the readers may have enjoyed True Beauty with a male protagonist, she changed the protagonist from male to female since she aimed at creating an "approachable" and "easy-to-read" comic with a story that most readers can identify with.[9]

True Beauty (; Yeosingangrim, translated as Advent of a Goddess)[1] is a manhwa webtoon published on the LINE Webtoon comic service globally. The series follows protagonist Jugyeong Lim, who, after being bullied for her appearance, becomes a very skilled makeup user. When Jugyeong enters high school, she manages to convince others that her beautiful, made-up face is her natural appearance. Jugyeong befriends Suho Lee while in school: a wealthy, cold boy whom she runs into, bare-faced, at a comic book shop. She later meets Seojun Han, an aggressive student with a mysteriously good singing voice. The plot follows Jugyeong as she navigates her daily life and goal of becoming a cosmetologist.

The webtoon is authored by illustrator and former fitting model Yaongyi and began publication on April 2, 2018 in South Korea. Its English localization began in August of 2018, with certain regions receiving earlier releases under the name The Secret of Angel.[2] True Beauty is currently one of LINE Webtoon's most popular series and was green-lit for a drama adaptation in the summer of 2019,[3][4] with a release planned for Q4 2020.[5]

Hey Ive read your two parts of TB analysis. Andddd I really like your analysis. Thats really make sense. You are so right. Same here teamSeojun in the webtoon. So I cam conclude from all of this. If suho deserve the endgame in drama because of this and that, so with the same logic actually Seojun is the one who deserve the endgame in webtoon. Right..

Jugyeong Lim has been treated unfairly by her family and bullied by her enemies due to being perceived as ugly. She learns how to use makeup by binge-watching online video tutorials. As she slowly masters the art of makeovers, her dramatic transformation leads to her overwhelming popularity and fame. Armed with her newfound beauty, Jugyeong is in a love triangle with two of the most handsome boys at school: Suho, the stoic mystery man who knows her secret and Seojun, the \"bad boy.\" Jugyeong must balance the pitfalls of her popularity with the newfound pressures of young adulthood.

In this second book of the series, Jugyeong and Suho begin to develop feelings for each other. Does Jugyeong finally have a boyfriend? But then a new guy, Seojun, steps into the scene, and he's seen Jugyeong's true face! Will Jugyeong be able to keep Seojun from revealing her secret?

I acc LOVE the drama, it got the story from the webtoon translated into the drama beautifully.... but .... what I don't like is the actor they got for seojun cuz it's just he doesn't give the "BAD BOY vibes" (IDK if u get me). Anyways that's all I noticed for now...

idk i act kinda like it more. it makes me like the character more than in the webtoon. was it that ppl initially wanted the guy that played baekhyug in extraordinary you to play seojun? or is that not right. i rememeber there was smth about some fans wanting this other actor to do it. who was it? (but IMO i rlly likr in yeops version)

After taking a shower back at home, Suho enters the living room to find a bare-faced Jugyeong laughing in her pajamas. He admires her beauty in the moment, reaffirming that he always loved her no matter her appearance. He suddenly proposes to her while she's laying on the couch, creating a more casual yet heartwarming moment. Jugyeong excitedly says yes, but quickly questions why he chose to propose to her while she was dressed down in her comfortable clothes and natural appearance. This fitting conclusion to their romance proves that Jugyeong was always worthy of love in her naturally beautiful state.

While True Beauty is primarily a romance, Jugyeong's relationship with her appearance and self-esteem is an overarching theme throughout the series. Her journey comes full circle in the finale, as she accepts her natural appearance and discovers what true beauty means to herself and others. Fortunately, fans who are sad that the series came to an end can take refuge in the spinoff series, currently dropping new episodes on Tuesdays in the Webtoons app. True Beauty also inspired a live action South Korean drama series of the same name that aired from December 2020 through February 2021.

According to Yonhap on October 1, webtoon artist Yaongyi confirmed that she already finished completing her masterpiece, "True Beauty." The writer attended the Bucheon International Comics Festival and mentioned to her fans that she had a hard time doing the final episode of the story.

According to Yaongyi, the most touching part of the story for her was the episode in which cover makeup was applied to an aunt who had scars. The webtoon author said that the content was written at the beginning of the series, and many people around her were also moved by it.
