We camp at least once a month, and during the summer, we head to Goshen Scout Reservation and a Scouting America High Adventure Base selected by our Patrol Leaders’ Council (PLC).
We also love recognizing our Scouts for their hard work and adventures. One of our special troop recognitions is the Troop 98 Camping Woggle.
What’s a Woggle? A woggle is a braided neckerchief slide made using a Turk’s head knot—a decorative knot with interwoven strands forming a closed loop. Troop 98 uses a set of distinctive colors to recognize the total number of camping nights a Scout has completed with Troop 98, earned Frost Points, or served as Scout Camp staff.
Below is the key to Troop 98’s Camping Woggles.
While a member of Troop 98, camping nights during Troop 98 designated Scouting activities or events. The total number of nights is calculated by the total number of nights camping as a member of Troop 98 or a contingent unit approved by Troop 98.

One Frost Point is earned for each degree below freezing recorded during a campout. To qualify, Scouts must be camping in a tent or shelter—cabin camping does not count. The temperature is determined by the nearest official National Weather Service station to the campsite; however, a leader’s on-site thermometer is also acceptable. A Scout who earns 32 Frost Points is recognized with a distinctive two-color 'Frosty Woggle'.

Camp Staff Woggle
One week on Scout camp staff
While Scout camp is a fun and memorable experience for all Scouts, it wouldn't be possible without the dedication and hard work of fellow Scouts who serve on camp staff. In recognition of their service to others, Troop 98 Scouts who serve for at least one week on a Scouting America-accredited Scout Camp Staff receive a unique green-and-yellow — the colors of summer! — 'Camp Staff Woggle'.
