Advancement Frequently Asked Questions document is an informal resource which contains detailed information describing how the advancement process works.

The Boy Scout Guide to Advancement is the official resource for the advancement process. It's a long document, 97 pages in length, but skimming at least two pages, pages 8-9, will give a general understanding of the goals of advancement and how they reinforce the Scout Oath and Law.
