Advancement in Troop 604
Most ranks require a scout to be active in the troop for a period of time (usually 6 months). In our troop, being "active" means at lest 50% attendance, or one meeting per month (on average). Being active also means participating in the meetings you attend and fulfilling the responsibilities of any troop/patrol position to which you've been elected.

All advancement in our troop is tracked in Scoutbook. You can use Scoutbook to view your scout's rank advancement status and see which requirements are complete and which still need to be done. If you have any trouble accessing Scoutbook, please contact our troop's Scoutbook admin, Lyle Borders (lyle.borders@gmail.com).

In our troop, younger scouts who have not yet earned their First Class rank will usually join the New Scout patrol. Here they will focus on the skills and requirements needed to become a First Class scout. Once a scout earns their First Class rank, they move into one of the regular scout patrols, which focus on earning the merit badges needed for the Star, Life and Eagle ranks.

1-2 times a month our district will host merit badge clinics--likely three hours on a Saturday morning. Since we only meet twice a month for troop meetings, these clinics (along with scout camp each summer) will be a primary means of earning merit badges.

Please remember that while your scout can complete many of the needed advancement requirements during meetings and clinics, your scout will almost always come away with a few outstanding requirements they'll need to do on their own with your help.
