Our scouts carrying flags at a Flag Day ceremony for the Elks Lodge
Our troop is dedicated to helping our Shreveport community and preserving nature. We are proud partners with the Elks 122 Lodge and love to help out there as well as in many other spots of our community. Every month we like to go on camping trips or participate in other Scouting activities that help our community and encourage our scouts to learn new and helpful skills. We like to go to Kinsey Scout Reservation (formerly Garland) as well as other places, either in Norwela Council or at others during our various summer or winter camps.
Scouts BSA (also known as The Boy Scouts of America, though they are now open to all youth) is an organization formed in September of 1910 and aimed to teach young boys about good citizenship and chivalrous behavior as well as teaching them helpful nature and survival skills. Scouting teaches children and teens helpful skills that they can use in nature as well as in their everyday lives. You can find more information about Scouts BSA and their programs here.

Troop 5 is a fully scout-led troop. Many other troops are primarily led by the adult scoutmasters while the scouts have very limited input. Troop 5 has everything from the camp locations to the weekly meeting topics chosen entirely by the scouts, with the adults only coming in with their own ideas and to make sure we can actually do what we want to do. Our troop uses the patrol method, with there being 2 main patrols, Flaming Arrow and Blue Phoenix. Even the patrol names are chosen by the scouts!

Troop 5 is always open to new members at any time! You can come to one of our open houses that we hold twice a year where we play fun games and cook great food for our aspiring scouts! You could also always feel free to drop into a meeting to see how things run normally. We hold a meeting most every Tuesday from 7:15 PM to 8:15 PM. We don't discriminate against anyone of any race, sexuality or religion.
