Our History
Troop 520 is currently chartered out of Signal Hill United Methodist Church. Signal Hill is a small neighborhood in Belleville, IL.
1925: The Troop was established in 1925 and was part of the Kaskaskia Council as Troop 20. Back then Signal Hill was part of East St. Louis, IL so the original troop flag actually says East St. Louis instead of Belleville as it does today.
1965: Kaskaskia and the Mississippi Valley Councils merged to become Okaw Valley Council. This merger added a 5 onto the Troop number to make it Troop 520.
1972: Signal Hill became part of Belleville, IL which necessitated a change to the Troop flag.
2009: Okaw Valley and Trails West (which was a product of the merging of the Piasa Bird & Cahokia Mounds Councils in 1991) Councils merged to form The Lewis & Clark Council. Troop 520 was part of the St. Clair District.
2016: The Lewis & Clark Council voted to merge into the Greater St. Louis Area Council. This merger did add an 8 to the Troop number technically making it Troop 8520 however that is only used on official paperwork.
2019: Troop 520 Girls were formed and quickly became one of the largest and most active Girls Troops in the Council.
2022: St. Clair District voted to change it's name to Soaring Eagle District.
2025: 100th Anniversary of Troop 520's founding.
