If you are not your own nonprofit and rely on the status of your charter organization, you will need to work with them on this process.  If they are using the Google Workspace for Nonprofit already, they may be able to provide you with a subdomain for use.  If they are not using that service and would not mind applying on your behalf, you could get the service that way.  Alternatively, you would need to be registered as a nonprofit and meet the criteria above.

For nonprofit status, here are some steps:

To obtain the necessary forms to apply for tax exemption, please contact the Internal Revenue Service by calling (toll free) 1-877-829-5500, or downloading the forms from the IRS's website. The required forms are:

1. Form SS-4: Application for Employer Identification Number;

2. Form 8718: User Fee for Exempt Organization Determination Letter Request; and Either:

3. Form 1023: Application for Recognition of Exemption for 501(c)(3) Organizations; or

4. Form 1024: Application for Recognition of Exemption for all other exempt statuses.

We are in-between steps 2 and 3 right now as our charter organization may be changing, and we did not want to be caught up in that challenge with our workspace. So we went the nonprofit application route.  I have seen others use the 'friends of Troop xxx' in setting up a nonprofit, but we did not go that route.  Learning as we go.
