We will leave Grandville early on Friday, March 13 - Scouts will miss school to participate. We will be camping outdoors, not inside a cave.
1. Departure & Arrival Times – We are meeting at 8:30 am on Friday, March 13th at the scout church with plans to leave by 9am. If adults need to leave a vehicle, you can park them in the back corner. We should arrive to the cave between 5pm and 6pm eastern time, but we will be in central time by the time we get there. Our departure to home and arrival home should follow a similar time frame. Leave after breakfast on Sunday, March 15th and be home around dinner time.
2. Travel Meals - Bring a travel meal for lunch on Friday and money for a fast food dinner meal on Friday. For the return trip home on Sunday, you will make a bag lunch for the ride home and we will not be stopping for dinner. Dinner is on your own after we get back, be aware.
3. Travel Entertainment - It’s going to be an over 8 hour day of travel, both days. Your welcome to bring devices, games and activities for travel. Devices will not be allowed in camp, they will have to stay in the vehicles.
4. Weather & Packing – It will be warmer down south, may be as high as 70s, but be prepared with your packing for all types of weather that we could encounter. Comfortable shoes for walking/hiking the cave are recommended.
5. Tenting – Our campsite might be on the smaller side, so be prepared to share a tent with a buddy. Having a tent buddy is actually the norm for scouting and something the troop required before the covid era mandates to single tent camp. This has benefits for many reasons and we’ll be looking to implement it more at campouts. If you don’t have a tent big enough for at least two people on the ground, the troop has at least four tents going on this campout you can barrow.
6. Drivers – We will be going straight to the campsite upon arrival, not the welcome center or any other location. It’s recommended that your vehicle stop for dinner by the time you hit Elizabethtown, KY, near the US-65s exit 94 to Route 62. Past this exit, options for quick easy meals begin to get sparse as we get closer to the cave. From this area to the cave is about an hour of small towns and back roads. The address of our site is below, we are site 7, the last site on the one way loop.

Camping is Scouting's signature program method for putting into action all those skills we learn in our weekly meetings. Summer Camp is a full week, away from every-day distractions, to bring those skills to bear, and bond with Scouting friends.
Every year, we face the same dilemma: Where will we go?! When will we go?!
Our first decision is in-council or out-of-council and we will probably opt for in-council, since it's economical and requires less travel. Here are links to the camps available at the in-council rate:
We will decide on a camp and deposits will be due this fall.
