Troop 2025 has asked Josh Hare to present the Citizenship in the World Merit Badge. Citizenship in the World is required for Eagle rank, so all Scouts who don't already have it are strongly encouraged to work with him. He will be at the VFW hall at 6 pm on September 3, 10, and 17 - 30 minutes before our regular meeting time.
Troop 150, from Waynesville, is hosting a STEM themed campout at Kickapoo Trace in Dixon. The campout will take place September 12-14, we will be meeting at the VFW hall at 5:30 pm and leaving by 6:00 pm, and returning to the VFW hall by noon on Sunday. On September 20, scouts are strongly encouraged to attend the Celebration of Nations.
We are signed up to help with setup on Friday, September 19. Please be at 209 E 8th St, Suite 120D at 5pm to help set up for the parade. We, along with other volunteers, will load up two U-Haul trucks with supplies. Then we will head to 901 North Elm St to unload, set up canopies, tables, and chairs, and so on.
We will also help take down after the parade, so please be at 901 N Elm St at 4pm on Saturday, September 20. We will be taking down all the canopies, tables, and chairs, loading them back into the U-Haul trucks, and returning the supplies to storage at 209 E 8th St.
Mark your calendars!
Attending the parade does count toward one of the requirements for the Citizenship in the World merit badge.
Our Troop will hold its first Court of Honor on September 24. The Court of Honor is a ceremony to celebrate the accomplishments of our Scouts over the last several months, and parents and family are invited to celebrate with our Scouts. After the ceremony will be a potluck-style dinner. Speak to your Troop leaders to sign up to bring something!
Ozark Trails Council is offering IOLS, outdoor leadership training for adults, on October 11 and 12. The event will take place at the Childress Reserve, near Joplin, MO. It's a fantastic location and a good chance to meet adult leaders from across the council, plus troops are required to have at least one person trained through IOLS at every outing. Please consider taking the training if you are a committee member or assistant Scoutmaster and have not already done so.
University of Scouting will take place on October 18 in Springfield. The event will provide a range of training opportunities that expand on the basic leadership training programs and help broaden our Scouters' skills.
Finally, a Wilderness First Aid course will take place on November 1 at Camp Arrowhead. It's still in the planning stages, so keep an eye on the Council web site for updates.
On October 24, we will be headed to Onondaga Cave State Park for the weekend. Rolla Public Schools are out of session on the 24th, so the Scouts are planning to leave for the campout a little earlier in the day to work on building camp gadgets. A hike and a cave tour are also on the list of potential plans!
The Heroes Marathon will take place on November 15. Our Troop is planning to help serve dinner to the participants on Friday evening (November 14) in Salem, then we will help with water stations and serving lunch in Rolla the next day. Camping will be available at the campground behind the VFW hall for those who are interested.
Troop 149 has reserved slots for 3 crews to go to the Northern Tier high adventure base, near Ely, MN. The trip is scheduled for June 14-23, 2026. They still have a few open slots for both male and female participants. Scouts must be at least 14 years old on June 15, 2026, and must meet height and weight standards. The total cost of the trip will be about $1,300 per person. Assistant Scoutmaster Jim Stone has taken crews to Northern Tier 6 times, so please contact him with questions. The first payments to Northern Tier will be due October 1.
Participants may need to purchase additional gear for the trek as well, so plan ahead.
August 15-17 we participated in the annual canoe float sponsored by Order of the Arrow's Wa-Sha-She Lodge. We spent about four hours on the Current River, camped out for the weekend with Scouts from across the Council, and had a great time!
Congratulations to the Arrow of Light scouts from Pack 2025, who crossed over and joined Troop 2025!
