Troop 10 is chartered to St. Pius X Catholic Church in Lafayette Louisiana, but has scouts from all over Lafayette, Broussard and Youngsville. The troop was founded by Mike Monte and some friends back around 2003 when they saw a need for a troop based at St. Pius X Catholic Church (the “10” in Troop 10 stands for Pius “X”). The troop meets at least twice (usually 3 times) a month every monday and also has a monthly PLC and Troop Committee meeting.
We plan an outdoor activity each month usually involving an overnight stay. We attend two resident camps each year, one in the Summer and the other in the late Fall during Thanksgiving break.
Our troop is almost entirely boy-led. Our PLC (Patrol Leader Council) plans our campouts and activities. They make the schedules for all the logistics. This helps the boys being able to plan and coordinate. It helps them later in life. In fact, this website was made by one of them. In Boy Scouts, we have several positions. 3 Patrols (Phoenix, Beaver, and Fox) each with a PL (Patrol Leader) and an APL (Assistant Patrol Leader). In addition, we have a scribe who takes note of things. Webmaster (That is me I am the Webmaster) who is in charge of the website. The final is SPL (Senior Patrol Leader) and ASPL (Assistant Senior Patrol Leader). They are on top and in charge of everything. Quarter Master who is in charge of keeping our trailer with all of our cooking supplies and tents in order.
The Edge Method is one of the key principles of scouting for teaching.
First one of the older scouts would Educate how to tie a certain knot.
Then they would Demonstrate it.
Next, they would Guide the younger scouts to do it.
Then the young scout is Enabled to do that certain skill.
We have 3 main patrols at Troop 10. Each patrol acts semi-independent on each campout. They are in charge of cooking and setting up tents for themselves. As we discuss every year we vote on a new Patrol Leader. They also decided on their Assistant Patrol Leader. The three patrols are the Phoenix, Beavers, and Foxes.
