Why: the official vision of the national organization is, "Scouting America will prepare every eligible youth in America to become a responsible, participating citizen and leader who is guided by the Scout Oath and Law."
Who: Boys and girls aged 5-18 are welcome (depending on age) either in the Cub Pack or the Troop.
How: Scouting at the 6th grade+ stage is meant to be "youth-led" so the youth are planning and executing the meetings and campouts, with support from adult volunteers. During a weekly meeting, the youth often work on learning/teaching each other scout skills needed for rank advancement or planning a campout if one is coming up. It's a great chance for kids to experience some "safe" independence.
When:
Youth in the 6th grade and over meet weekly from 7:30-8:30 pm at Temple Israel Center in White Plains.
4th & 5th graders meet at the same time & place, every other week.
3rd grade and below meet on Sundays every other week at many different places.
