Scouts Help Restore Kuli‘ou‘ou Ridge
By Aloha Alakai
Scouts from Troop 10 recently spent a day in service and stewardship during Aloha Tree Alliance’s Jan. 17 community work day at Kuli‘ou‘ou Ridge Trail. Working alongside other volunteers, our Scouts helped plant native trees and shrubs and care for young seedlings in the Hawaiian Hardwoods Community Forest.
In just a few hours, the group planted hundreds of native plants representing multiple species grown in ATA’s Native Hawaiian Plant Nursery. Scouts also assisted with watering and clearing space for a future outdoor learning area, gaining hands-on experience in conservation and taking care of the environment.

Scouts from dozens of Packs and Troops converged at Sheraton Waikiki Hotel on October 30, 2025 to help honor this year's Distinguished Citizen, the Hawaii Community Foundation. Since 1983, Hawaii's Aloha Council has honored community leaders who exemplify the core values of Scouting. While the majority of past honorees were individuals, organizations have also been recognized for their accomplishments as a whole, especially for their commitment to helping improve the lives of the people of Hawaii.
According to the event program, Hawaii Community Foundation is made up of a group of citizens who, "For over a century...has uplifted our islands with compassion, cultural understanding, and a strong sense of kuleana." They have supported Hawaii through the Covid-19 epidemic, the Maui wildfires, and now statewide nonprofit funding due to the government reduction in funds, to name a few.
