APPROACHES TO LEARNING
The Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills are designed to help students ask relevant questions, set meaningful goals, and use effective strategies to achieve their goals. They are also intended to provide a common language for teachers and students to use when reflecting and building on the learning process.

IB PYP schools have six transdisciplinary themes that guide learning throughout the school year. These themes provide the opportunity to incorporate local and global issues across the curriculum. It's a way for students to explore a relevant concept, issue, or problem by integrating perspectives from multiple disciplines.
Specified concepts drive transdisciplinary learning. They are timeless, significant, and universal. These specified concepts allow students to engage in higher-order thinking in a meaningful way.
Taking action is an essential element of the Primary Years Program. When students take action, they reflect and make connections to the knowledge and experiences they have acquired and apply them to everyday life. Students at Highland Park Elementary are encouraged to be active learners and take action to make our school, community, and the world a better place.
