New Literature Homework

We are beginning a new and exciting course of study in our Literature Homework! As a parent, you may want some extra details of the purpose and directions.

1. In class, we will be modeling annotation. The first step of this is finding three key words per page that would allow us to easily remember what happened. In class, we will be telling the scholars which words those are. Later in the year, they will begin to find those themselves.

2. When they arrive home, the scholars will review the key words in their chapter and write them down on their HW sheet. As they do, it is always a good idea to have them tell you what is happening in the chapter as a summary retell.

3. Below the key word outline, you will see questions. There are four types of comprehension questions we will use: Multiple choice, fill in the blanks, true/false, and narrative. These four types will indirectly help prepare them for the state test by using our classical curriculum. Each book we do will prepare them in a different way. Last book, we studied how to form an argument using text. This book we will explore the idea of retell and comprehension.

4. As always, if the scholars take longer than one hour TOTAL on their homework, please sign and tell us. They will be given full credit with your signature. We appreciate you partnering with us in this great endeavor to teach your children, and we always want them to be able to remain children as long as possible, so please feel free to use this signature tool whenever you need.
