TripCost is designed to keep your journey and calculator data private. The app does not sell, rent, or share your personal data with advertisers, analytics providers, or data brokers. TripCost does not track you across apps or websites.
Most TripCost data stays on your device. Some optional features, such as iCloud Sync, TripCost Pro, and GOV.UK Fuel Finder price search, use Apple or backend services only as needed to provide the feature you choose to use.
TripCost stores information you enter or choose so the app can provide its core features. This may include:
Fuel price, MPG, distance, budget, and cost values entered into the calculator
Split-cost settings and related calculation results
Saved journey history
Optional journey names
Journey dates, costs, cost per mile, cost per person, and other calculation results
App preferences such as currency, appearance, default fuel price, Fuel Finder fuel type, and iCloud Sync settings
If you save a selected fuel station as your default, the station name, station ID, address or postcode where available, coordinates where available, selected fuel type, last known fuel price, and update timestamps
This information is stored locally on your device unless you enable iCloud Sync or use an online feature described below.
TripCost includes optional iCloud Sync for journey history. If you enable iCloud Sync, your journey history is stored in your private iCloud database using Apple CloudKit so it can sync between your Apple devices.
Your iCloud data is managed by Apple and tied to your Apple Account. TripCost does not use iCloud data for advertising, analytics, profiling, or tracking.
You can turn iCloud Sync off in the app settings. You can also delete TripCost data stored in iCloud from the iCloud Sync settings screen.
TripCost Pro subscriptions are purchased through Apple's App Store in-app purchase system. Apple processes the payment and manages billing, refunds, renewals, and subscription status. TripCost does not receive your payment card details or billing address.
TripCost uses StoreKit subscription information to decide whether Pro features are available. The app may store a local entitlement cache, including the active product ID and Apple's signed transaction data, so Pro access can continue briefly when your device is offline.
For Pro-only Fuel Finder features, TripCost sends Apple's signed transaction data to the TripCost Supabase backend so the backend can verify that the subscription is active before returning GOV.UK fuel price data. This verification is used only to provide Pro features.
TripCost Pro includes optional GOV.UK Fuel Finder price search for UK fuel stations. Manual fuel price entry remains available without using Fuel Finder.
When you search by current location, TripCost asks iOS for When In Use location access. If you allow it, the app sends your approximate latitude and longitude, search radius, selected fuel type, result limit, and Pro entitlement proof to the TripCost Supabase backend. TripCost does not request background location access and does not continuously track your location.
When you search by town, road name, place, or postcode, the app sends the search text, search radius, selected fuel type, result limit, and Pro entitlement proof to the TripCost Supabase backend. The backend may use Postcodes.io and, where configured, Ordnance Survey OS Names API to resolve the search text to an approximate UK location.
The backend uses the official GOV.UK Fuel Finder API and cached official fuel price data to return matching stations and prices. Fuel Finder responses may include station names, addresses, postcodes, coordinates, prices, fuel types, update timestamps, source metadata, and attribution.
The TripCost backend may temporarily cache Fuel Finder lookup responses and may process normal technical request data, such as IP address and request metadata, for hosting, security, debugging, abuse prevention, and reliability. TripCost does not use Fuel Finder lookup data for advertising, analytics, profiling, or tracking.
If you save a station as your default fuel price source, TripCost stores that station information locally on your device. To refresh the selected station price, the app may send the saved station coordinates, selected fuel type, search radius, and Pro entitlement proof to the backend.
If you choose to open directions to a fuel station, TripCost opens your chosen maps application using station coordinates or address information.
TripCost does not send your calculator entries or saved journey history to the our servers. Feature-specific data, such as Fuel Finder search details and Pro entitlement proof, is sent only when needed for the optional features described in this policy.
TripCost shares data only when needed for features you choose to use:
Apple processes App Store purchases, subscription status, iCloud Sync data, and Apple Maps directions.
Supabase hosts the TripCost Fuel Finder backend and processes Fuel Finder requests for Pro users.
GOV.UK Fuel Finder provides official UK fuel station and price data.
Postcodes.io and Ordnance Survey OS Names API may be used by the backend to resolve UK place, road, or postcode searches.
If you export journey history as a CSV file, the file is shared only with the destination you choose using the iOS share sheet. TripCost does not receive or control what you do with exported files after sharing.
TripCost does not track you across apps or websites.
TripCost does not include third-party advertising SDKs, third-party analytics SDKs, or tracking technologies.
TripCost may request When In Use location access if you choose to search for nearby GOV.UK fuel prices. Location access is optional. You can deny or revoke location access in iOS Settings, and you can still enter fuel prices manually or search Fuel Finder by town, road, place, or postcode where available.
TripCost does not request access to your contacts, camera, microphone, photos, or other sensitive device data for its core calculator features.
Calculator inputs, settings, selected default station details, local Pro entitlement cache, and journey history remain on your device until you delete them, clear your journey history, change settings, or uninstall the app.
If iCloud Sync is enabled, synced journey history may remain in iCloud until you delete it using the app's iCloud data deletion option or manage it through your Apple Account or iCloud settings.
Fuel Finder lookup responses may be cached temporarily by the TripCost backend to improve performance and reliability. Fuel Finder source data is refreshed from the official GOV.UK Fuel Finder service.
TripCost does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
This privacy policy may be updated from time to time if TripCost's features or data practices change. Any updates should reflect the current behavior of the app.
