LOVE the life you live. Live the life you LOVE.
LOVE the life you live. Live the life you LOVE.
My name is Trinity Smith, and I am a senior at Charles R. Drew Charter Schools in Atlanta, Georgia. I started at Drew in elementary school, but after being diagnosed with a chronic illness, I spent five years being homeschooled. Returning for high school was a big adjustment, balancing academics, health, and the social world all at once. Living with a chronic illness as a young Black girl has meant learning to advocate for myself, navigate spaces that weren’t always understanding, and manage the everyday challenges of school and life.
I am the middle child of three siblings, and my experiences growing up—juggling school, health, and personal challenges gave me a deep sense of responsibility and care for others I turned my pain into a passion. I started Roots In Her Health, Inc. because I realized how many young people, especially Black girls, don’t have the guidance, support, or knowledge they need to take care of their mental, emotional, and physical health. Through my nonprofit, I create programs and initiatives to help youth understand wellness, navigate high school, and gain tools to advocate for themselves. I also mentor middle schoolers and volunteer for local community events, building spaces where young people feel seen, supported, and empowered.
As a first-generation student, I am determined to pursue higher education at an HBCU, studying biology on a pre-med track. My goal is to become a pediatrician or occupational therapist, creating spaces where children especially those from marginalized communities, receive care, understanding, and advocacy. Everything I do comes from a place of purpose: learning, leading, and supporting others has shown me how persistence, connection, and action can make a real difference.
