HP Printer Free Setup Guide
Using the HP Printer's Control Panel (for printers with a display screen)
Access Wireless Settings: On your printer's control panel or touchscreen, navigate to the "Setup," "Network," or "Wireless" settings menu.
Run Wireless Setup Wizard: Select "Wireless Setup Wizard" from the options. The printer will then search for available Wi-Fi networks.
Select Network and Enter Password: Choose your Wi-Fi network name (SSID) from the list. Enter your Wi-Fi password (network security key) using the printer's on-screen keyboard when prompted. Once entered, the printer should connect, and the wireless light will typically become solid.
Using Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) if your router supports it.
Activate WPS on Printer: Press and hold the "Wireless" button on your HP printer for about 5 seconds (the specific button and duration might vary slightly by model, check your printer's manual if unsure). The wireless light should start blinking.
Activate WPS on Router: Within two minutes of activating WPS on the printer, press the WPS button on your wireless router. This button is often labeled and might be on the front or back of the router.
Automatic Connection: The printer and router will communicate and connect automatically. When the connection is successful, the wireless light on the printer will stop blinking and become solid.
Using the HP Smart App
Prepare Printer for Setup: Ensure your HP printer is turned on and in "Wi-Fi setup mode." This often involves restoring network settings on the printer (check your printer's manual for specific instructions, as it can vary by model, e.g., pressing certain button combinations). The wireless light will usually blink when in setup mode.
Download and Open HP Smart App: Download and install the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device (available from 123.hp.com, the App Store, or Google Play Store). Open the app and follow the prompts to create an account or sign in.
Add Printer and Connect: In the HP Smart app, select "Add Printer" or "Set Up a New Printer." The app will search for nearby printers. Select your printer from the list and follow the on-screen instructions to connect it to your Wi-Fi network, providing your network name and password when prompted. The app will guide you through the process, and once connected, you can print directly from the app.
