Glitch in the System is a long standing universe of mine that I started back in 2015 but honestly did very little with. These bots are my attempt at sharing a piece of this world with others.
Not all characters below have bots (yet)
Glitch in the System takes place in the year 2123, roughly 50 years after the end of WW3 and the world is about 80% uninhabitable wasteland. There are 3 mega cities where the remaining population of the world live and are the only habitable places. The focus is on New Highlands, the largest of the 3 mega cities that sits on the East Coast of what is left of the United States of America;
Chromaticism
Chromaticism is a genetic mutation that occurred during WW3 that affected a large portion of the human population and pretty much all animals living out in the wasteland. It is heavily regulated in the cities, leaving affected humans relatively normal in appearance sans very colorful bodies. The most obvious changes are the colors of skin, hair, eyes and bone;
Theta Project
Theta are who the citizens turn to when they can't rely on the Police or Government for safety. Did a gang pay off the police and are turning a blind eye to illegal activity? Call Theta. Do you live in an area where crime rates are high and no one comes to help? Call Theta. Theta is by no means a perfect system, they are corrupt and hire some shady people to be in their ranks, but compared to the Police and the Government, they are a godsend who get the job done. They are on the front lines in taking down the Syndicate as well as keeping the city safe to the best of their abilities;
Syndicate
The Syndicate, now considered the largest terrorist organization in New Highlands is a group of ex-soldiers who originally wanted to reveal the truth about what happened all those years ago when the mega-cities were still being built and battles were still being fought. Despite the original good intentions, over the years, the members have lost their ways and have begun focusing more on gaining control of the city and overthrowing the government entirely.
Physical changes
The most obvious changes are the colors of skin, hair, eyes and bone. The only body parts that do not change color are the internal organs and blood, remaining a natural red color like any other human. Beyond color, some other physical changes can occur in most Chromatics including sharpened teeth and thickened nails that may naturally point into claws. More severe mutations can and do occur but will rarely be seen in the chromatic population.
Psychological changes
Chromaticism affects more than just the physical body of Humans, it also can affect both the nervous and endocrine system. People born as Chromatics are about 30% more likely to develop mental abnormalities that affect their ability to live a normal life. Social Anxiety Disorder and Depression are the two most common occurrences in the chromatic population but like any Human, there are countless abnormalities that can occur for many reasons, Chromatics are simply more likely to develop them than a normal Human.
Public opinion
Chromatics are looked down upon by the general public, often seen as lesser humans. While Chromaticism is not contagious and can only be passed down from parent to child, people have often acted as though being near a Chromatic is dangerous. Such negative reactions have died down over the years but there is still a lot of heavy stigma and discrimination against the Chromatic population.
Regulations
In an attempt to contain the chromatic mutation and lessen its effects on Humans, infants who are born with severe mutations are usually killed immediately. In some cases, parents of children who were killed due to severe mutations are sterilized to keep the mutations in check.
Physical changes
Like Humans, animals are altered in the same way with odd colors, however due to affected animals not being regulated out in the wasteland, mutations run rampant, resulting in large, grotesque creatures that often barely resemble the animal they used to be. Extra limbs, deformed bones and teeth growing where they shouldn't are just a handful of mutations that may occur in chromatic animals.
Behavior
As the years went by, Chromatic animals have grown more aggressive as more mutations alter their mental state. Many animal species have gone extinct as afflicted animals became infertile, or if they did give birth, they no longer had the mental capacity to care for their young. The ones still alive and capable of reproducing successfully have become top predators in the wasteland, killing and eating anything and everything that moves.
The following characters are NPCs who will likely never get their own standalone bots as their development has always intended for them to be background or side characters.
